Students use lectures to sleep, eat and text

The Guardian today reveals that more than one in four students admit to sleeping during lecture times, 63% have sent text messages, and 25% were dissatisfied with the standard of teaching, according to an Opinionpanel Research poll. I have to say, though that this information, gleaned from the first couple of paragraphs, sounds a lot less bad than the headline, which suggests that this is what most students think lectures are for!

(By the way, I’m using this to test out Ecto, a desktop MT client for the Mac. It’s a shareware program, which means I might not be using it for longer than the trial period, but it’s certainly a well-designed program, so far. Here’s a picture of what it looks like. I found it recommended in Sams’ Teach Yourself Movable Type in 24 Hours, so far the only whole book on the subject.)
