Nada Jarrar on Khouri and other horror stories

There is an article in today’s Guardian by the Lebanese-Australian novelist Nada Jarrar, about the phenomenon of horror stories about the life of Muslim women being published in the west, with particular focus on the notorious Honor Lost / Forbidden Love affair:

My London agent, Toby Eady, who represents a number of Arab women writers, says, “It is still no easier to sell the real stuff - the proper writing from the inside, as opposed to the outside western perspective. But there is an endless stream of books about women being sold into Saudi harems published in the US, which get enormously hyped, and which seem to me little more than propaganda.”
