"Muslim" WakeUp has got cracked! (View image)

I'm not usually in favour of "cracking" like this, but it's nice to see that such a plainly anti-Islamic site got the treatment. Until now I had only heard of it in Dan Verton's ridiculous book Black Ice (on cyber-terrorism - how is this terrorism?). I hope they don't do this to too many sites as, by the time these skills are actually needed, the loopholes may have been tightened.

Then again, you have to partly blame web-hosting companies for this, because they encourage you to use FTP, with its plain-text password authentication, to upload websites. Always go with a host which offers SSH as you can then use SFTP to upload your site, which means people cannot intercept your password.

Salaam.

I feel a real pain when I read some of the stuff on their site, particularly in forums where the so-called progressives gather. One common statement I've read is that "Islam is not about worshipping a man, you should be able to say..." followed incredible cursing of the Prophet alayhisalaam, Sayyidina Aisha, Sayyid Ali and so on.

Reasons I think that people visit that site are: the authors are generally articulate; they are dealing with contemporary affairs; they frequently add new content.

Most of the 'traditional' sites get left by the wayside and stagnate: the content deals with issues that most of the progressives find very dull (that is, they tend ignore wider social issues and concentrate on personal or family fiqh issues in a Q&A manner)

I feel that the 'crack' was a waste of time, and time would be better spent creating a website that was designed well with frequent addition of compelling content.

I don't think that we have anything like that yet.

Yeah, I know what sort of site you mean. Then again, I suspect that the people behind the crack were not our sort of traditional Muslims.

Salaam 'Alaikum

I don't think it's a waste of time, but then again, I have no idea what sort of time and energy goes into doing something like that. Perhaps some truly naive, seeking people were prevented, for at least a few hours or a day, from reading ... that stuff, and being misled. For a few hours, perhaps, the slander of the Ummah wasn't being counted in their books. For a few hours, perhaps, the kaba'ir that are bragged about weren't being counted. Allahu 'Alim.

Cant say I'm for the hack job, but I'll admit it was entertaining, I saved the page for laughs. No doubt the pro-regressives will use it as publicity.

I see Robert Spencer's gang has now got a hold of this story...
