This should, perhaps, be a lesson to those who asked us to declare our religion in the 2001 UK census, just so that an accurate figure for the numbers of British Muslims could be reached. I'm not writing to the government to tell them I'm Muslim, thank you very much.
Then again, in a US context, what Al-Muhajabah is alluding to is plainly unconstitutional:

It really freaks me out to think that 27% of Americans would support something like that. The rest of the survey results aren't much better, but that part about making Muslims register just made me hit the roof. I just got back from a business trip; imagine if I had to get approval from some government agency to do that, or to check in with the authorities at my destination, then again when I got back home. That's pretty freaking disturbing.
