For anyone who's heard all the speculation about Robert Kilroy-Silk's new party, called "Veritas" (Latin for truth), but missed the actual launch ... I thought I'd present a link to a rundown on Kilroy's view on, well, humanity in general. (I don't suppose we'll hear an end very soon to the corruptions of his party's name. I've come up with Slurritas, after what he was pelted with a few weeks back and what he's full of. Other suggestions include Vanitas and Inanitas.)
Here's Kilroy on Iraqis:
"They are not grateful for being liberated. They do not appreciate that the coalition forces are attempting to build a decent, democratic, civilised country. They certainly do not appear to be either able or willing to contribute to its reconstruction. Why should we put British lives on the line for this lot? They are not worth the life of one British soldier, not one. All they seem to do is moan, incessantly, about their lack of amenities" (29 Jun 2003).
Robert Kilroy-Silk's views about foreigners
(10pm: By the way, Veritas is also the name of a software company. I wonder if they have a case for copyright infringement?)

I read a profile of this guy on the new york times magazine page a few weeks ago. From what I read,it seems to me that he is becoming a lighting rod for intolerance in Europe.
Salaams, Ousman ... I'm not sure how effective he could be, because this is his second party jump, from Labour, to an insignificant party (UKIP) to an even more insignificant one (Veritas). It's one more split to the far-right, Europhobic and/or general xenophobic vote.
I'm sort of hoping that the other parties will undercut Slurritas on some populist issues like weapons law reform and bypass the immigration non-issue. The thing is that you can only go so far by slagging off foreigners. The BNP have been doing this for years, and they've never gained a single MP (they've had a few Euro-MPs and local councillors, and have gained a reputation for incompetence on local councils).

Are you sure that anti-Muslim prejudice couldn't become as much of a vote winner as anti-Communism was in the United States?
