Evening Standard on 'Muslim Boys'

There is a report in today's Evening Standard (London) about a pseudo-Islamic criminal gang operating in south London. The report by David Cohen, Revealed: Rise of the Muslim Boys, claims that the gang's hallmark is extreme violence, and that they have access to high-powered automatic pistols. (There is another article referring to them here.) The gang is said to intimidate imams into opening their mosques in the early hours of the morning so that the gang can pray, and to carry out "conversions" of local youths, particularly "feral" children without adult supervision, to Islam at gunpoint. At least one local young man is reported to have been murdered for resisting this "da'wah" in order to set an example to others.

This is how gang member Winston describes "conversion". "You got to be Muslim to be in our group," he tells me [David Cohen]. "If you not down [cool] with Muslim, we visit your home, maybe strip you naked in front of your f***ing mother, we put a gun in your mouth. We give you three days [to change your mind], then, if you not down with it, we f***ing blow [shoot] you."

I don't think you'll be surprised to hear that this man is not really a Muslim.

When I ask Winston whether he believes in Islam, he prevaricates. "Sort of," he says. "I converted when I was in prison. I found it relaxing, we got better food. Now we all go to mosque together. If I refuse, they blow [shoot] me, innit. I pray twice a day: before I do crime, and after. I ask Allah for a blessing when I'm out on the street. Afterwards, I apologise to Allah for what I done."

Needless to say, the local Muslim community want nothing to do with him or his gang. Cohen reports that last month, the mosques in Brixton and Stockwell (two neighbouring south London suburbs) distanced themselves from the gang, calling themselves "criminals masquerading as Muslims". Abdul-Haqq Baker, chairman of Brixton mosque (dominated by Madkhalite Wahhabis), said that this was a new phenomenon that he'd not seen in 15 years of being a Muslim. However, the article contains a misleading reference to the "shoe bomber" Richard Reid, who at one point was part of the Brixton mosque community. In fact, he had left that group well before getting involved with whoever put him up to the shoe bombing. The Brixton mosque group are well-known to be opposed to al-Qa'ida from pretty much every angle. (Their outlook is the same as that of Salafi Publications and TROID.)

Yusuf notes: this post comes from 4.227.172.211. Unix "host" enquiry reveals this:

I've splatted out all the swear words, but I thought it necessary to show that there are some people who have this sort of attitude.

Shortly after the murders, members of the Egyptian consulate went to visit the family to encourage them to keep quiet. And many family members have obeyed, saying nothing to reporters or anyone else. However, two family members and another Copt viewed the bodies at the funeral home. One of these eyewitnesses said that he clearly saw that the family members had not suffered “stab wounds to the throat,” as the prosecutor’s report states, but rather the following:
A. Both adults, Hossam and Amal, had a horizontal slit across the throat. Below the slit, on the left, right and middle of the throat were three holes, big enough so that one could place a finger in each hole. According to the eyewitness, it was as if the assailant(s) took a knife and turned it repeatedly in a circular fashion, as if to screw holes into the victims’ necks.

B. The two young girls, Sylvia (15) and Monica (8), also had a horizontal slits in their throats, along with two holes bored below the slits, one on the right and one on the left sides of their necks. The holes were similar to those on their parents’ necks.

C. The eyewitness said although the bodies of the victims were all covered, he was able to see the arms of the little girl Monica. Although the tattoo of the cross inside Monica’s wrist was not defaced, he saw that her wrists were cut. He was not able to see the wrists of the other victims to see if the crosses on their wrists were defaced.

D. Though the family wants to reserve judgment until the results of the case are released, they did say that the way the four family members were bound and gagged and the way their throats were slit with holes carved is similar to executions that are shown on al-Jazeera. The American public is not aware of this because the details of the executions are not often described in news accounts.

Amal Garas’s father said that (contrary to many news reports and CAIR’s press release) none of the family’s jewelry was taken, and that Amal owned some quite expensive pieces that were not touched. At the time of her murder, Amal was wearing a ring worth $3,500 that was not taken

WTF?? You forgetting that in the article it mentions they shot a f*cking police officer? A bit selective aint it? You chose you what to right. You sicken me.

You dont like the people that made that accusation? Well look at the facts. We are be-ing treated like shit and WE ARE THE ONES DOING THE VICTIMISING??

You need to look at the facts. FFS

I doubt the gang are Muslim,I have muslim friends. The chances are the gang are using the word "Muslim" to scare us but why carry out conversions then? Why carry MAC-10s about?

If you dis-agree remember you have freedom of speech, so do I.

Sorry for any views which are against the relegion.

It's a problem. You can choose to see it as an attack on Islam. Or you can choose to see it as a dangerous, easily mobile, heavily armed group of nothing-to-lose gangsters. I'm born and bred in Brixton and I can tell you that this problem has been relavent for almost half a decade now. The religious aspect of the group is just a useful tag that they can wear. It's a young destructive mentality that adopts the tag (That has become a thing to fear in theis post-9/11 era. Unfortunately) They know what it does to local business', newspapers and policemen.

It's a shame but it needs dealing with. It may already be too late.....
