Abu Hamza attacked by criminal

The Sun, a low-class tabloid owned by Rupert Murdoch, today led with the story that Abu Hamza, the preacher on remand for incitement to murder and also wanted for extradition to the USA on supposed terrorist charges, has been attacked in Belmarsh prison by another inmate. “Crook smacks Hook”, was its headline; Hook is Abu Hamza’s nickname due to the hooks he wore because his own hands were blown off clearing landmines in Afghanistan. At the bottom of the story, the Scum gives the inmate a phone number to call, and says “and by the way, WELL DONE!”.

Well excuse me? Since the Scum calls the attacker a crook, let’s assume for a moment that he is indeed a common criminal. Since when was a common criminal better than someone on remand, i.e., someone who is still innocent, yet to be proved guilty? There is a well-known phonomenon of some criminals imagining themselves to be a higher class than others, and attacking them. It’s reported that Angela Cannings (who was falsely convicted with killing her babies, who in fact died of natural causes) was attacked in jail, and that Donna Anthony (jailed for the same reason, most likely innocent) is always called BKB (baby-killing bitch) by fellow inmates. I am kind of hoping that it turns out to be a child molester who did this. Because such people are certainly not seen by wider society as a “higher class” of scumbag than annoying little rabble-rousers on remand for possibly trumped-up terrorism charges, I mean, hook-handed al-Qa’ida monster hate preachers. I bet the Scum will quietly drop the story if this turns out to be the case (perhaps the Mirror will take it up - those two papers are always out for a dig at each other).
