Stonebridge cops

I couldn’t help noticing, as I passed in and out of Stonebridge Park station (in north-west London, near which is my job agency) earlier today, how many police were waiting in the lobby of the station. The place was packed with both ticket inspectors and coppers (around five of the latter).

Like, how many cops do you need to sort out fare evaders on one station on the Bakerloo line? Were they there to snag school truants, or expecting a bit of hassle from mouthy free riders who had been hoping to get away with it? Were they there to catch someone else who they expected to pass through? Or were they the people sent to check for illegal immigrants on the Underground, who also end up hassling any ethnic minorities for proof that they have the right to be in the UK?
