Well, I don't think an Islamic LUG Radio is necessary - is there an Islamic LUG to begin with? Why is one needed anyway? The issue is to have a show on a Linux or OSS theme with the same authority and which doesn't put a large chunk of the community off.

Yusuf,
I'm very suprised and delighted to find another Muslim listener of LUGradio! You may have heard the presenters read out an email from me on the show, I explained that I am a Pakistani Muslim. The guys seemed really pleased with my email.

Yes I heard your question to Jono at LRL. I would have gone to LRL with one of my work colleagues (Daniel Barron, who also gave a lightening talk) but maybe next year.

Anyways, from an Islamic view I feel a bit guilty listening to LRL because of the occasional swearing and adult themes shall we say. I too would like to see it toned down but as said by Matthew and Stuart, it is all up to them. It is possible to achieve a "light-hearted look at Linux and opensource" without being "laddish".
I think if they stayed on-topic all of the time then it would not be LUGradio and not half as interesting. I have been introduced to some cool projects and websites through listening to them and they get some great interview subjects (Mark Shuttleworth, Kevin Carmony).

So, how about it Yusuf? You an' me - www.islamicLUGradio.org/getinvolved ? :-))))))

Take care,
Imran

Just switched over to Xandros after downloading their open circulation copy free. I suppose they could be considered a corporate player albeit a minor one. Anyhow, for the record it's excellent I need to dual boot with windows as some of the work I do HAS to be done in Word on Windows because Crossover, OpenOffice, and StarOffice don't open some of the files exactly and sometimes I need to be precise.

I tried Fedora, Sun Java Desktop first which both wrecked my system and I had to do a bios reset and complete factory reinstall. Tried Novells Suse which I was really excited about, partly because the team is headed up by one of the former greats of the hacking world, but after numerous tries and iso images it just would not install. So tried Xandros. Very user friendly, and dual boots no problem and works fine on my new Toshiba Laptop. The help forums are also very good, instant and knowledgeable. Originally I partitioned my drive to give 10gig to Linux thinking I wouldn't use it, now it's all I'm using and I wish I had given 10 gig to windows.

I think the corporate players have a place, if only to give newbies like me a more user-friendly interface and install without all the techie stuff. Now I'm using Open Source for just about everything, and going through a 'I not going to pay for software but use open source stuff rather than pirated copies' phase.

Amazing really that you can get an excellent operating system, office software suit, web browser, e-mail client, and just about everything else legitimate for nada. Compared to around £600 from Microsoft. It seems though Linux brings together the best of Apple and Windows.

Thanks for coming to the show. I s'ppose you can't please all the people all the time, which is why we don't try to.

Feel free to put on an alternative show if you believe we're not catering for you.

Sorry you didn't like LugRadio Live and Unleashed. We felt it was more important to do things that spoke to the LugRadio community than to talk about the wider world of Linux, which we do in every episode and which we will continue to do from next Monday's episode. We've hashed over, many times, why we choose to be "laddish", and if being "inclusive" means not speaking as we normally do then we'd rather not include that segment of the community who are offended, and we have no problem with them voting with their feet and listening to other shows. If you feel we're unreasonably dismissive of technologies then you're welcome to bring up those topics on the LR forums or to send us an email outlining why you think that's the case, and we've been known to admit that we were wrong when challenged. If, however, you're just complaining that we're picking on your pet technologies but don't have any reasons why we're wrong then you'll just have to live with that, or possibly consider some alternatives.
