Shaikh Afifi on terrorism

Shaikh Muhammad Afifi al-Akiti has published a long article fisking an article apparently written by Omar Bakri Muhammad, which calls actions like the Sept 11 hijackings “a viable option in Jihad” for Muslims who don’t live in the west. The shaikh, a Malaysian Shafi’i scholar based in Oxford, calls the article’s endorsement of terrorism “not only an anomaly [shadh] and very weak [wahin] but also completely wrong [batil] and a misguided innovation [bid’a dalala]”.

    Salaam ‘Alaykum,

Subhan Allah, this is what we need: really! Our ulema need to be focusing their energy on the task at hand, and so release fatwas of such clarity that there is no room for ambiguity, no room for dicussion.

Of course, those who are so inclined will rant and rave and will find any justification for what they want to do. Imagine, when, insha Allah, we have tens or hundreds or even thousands of legal rulings such as this, from Indonesia to Morocco, and now from the non-Muslim lands too, how clear it will be to everyone. Those who are in doubt, who, as they say, “never ‘go against’ a Muslim”, their doubt will be no more. They will know how they should respond, and they will know because the people of knowledge told them it is so.

Ma sha Allah! I pray to God Almighty that he bestows on our Ummah many more alim such as Shaykh al-Akiti who are brave enough to pick up the gauntlet thrown by the traitors of our religion, and, to use a term from our land, “send them packing”.

    Ma as-salaama,

I just read the piece from Living Islam. This is certianly a step in a different direction. Especially since bro. Yusuf gave us a link about all the relevant kafiroon denouncing the American fatwa against terrorism as being fake due to its vaugeness. As if they are in authority to regard a fatwa as being a fake. Ha!

However the fatwa reads like it would be more comprehensive in Arabic.

(Goals for today: 1. Learn Arabic 2. Do laundry)

Some of it was difficult to understand because of the vocabulary. THe glossary helped, MAshAllah! May Allah azawajal reward the brothers for whatever good comes of their efforts. Ameen.

I have a question. It is not the case that the lands of the earth are either Darul Islam or Darul Harb but they can be either Darul Harb, Darul Islam, or Darul Kufr, and as mentioned in the fatwa on the Living Islam site. Only Imam ul Mumineen, or the leader of the Muslim lands can declare such land to be Darul Kufr or Darul Harb.

In addition it is possible that, for example, Pervez Musharef (may Allah azawajal guide him) , for better or for worse being the leader of the Muslims in Pakistan, can declare India to be Darul Harb, but Honsi Mubarek (may Allah azawajal guide him) can still regard it as Darul Kufr.

    Speaking of terrorism:

George W. Bush committed hate crimes of epic proportions and with the stench of terrorism (indicated in my blog).

George W. Bush did in fact commit innumerable hate crimes.

And I do solemnly swear by Almighty God that George W. Bush committed other hate crimes of epic proportions and with the stench of terrorism which I am not at liberty to mention.

Many people know what Bush did.

And many people will know what Bush did—even to the end of the world.

    Bush was absolute evil.

Bush is now like a fugitive from justice.

    Bush is a psychological prisoner.

Bush has a lot to worry about.

Bush can technically be prosecuted for hate crimes at any time.

In any case, Bush will go down in history in infamy.

I am not sure where I had read it before, but anyway, it is a linguistically excellent statement, and it goes kind of like this: “If only it were possible to ban invention that bottled up memory so it never got stale and faded.” Oh wait—off of the top of my head—I think the quotation came from my Lower Merion High School yearbook.
