I’ve just posted a new article in the Sharpener, about media coverage of the recent departure from the UK of Omar Bakri Muhammad:

One comment from this article, refering to my own comment about banning the hijab in schools, says that the consequences:

might also include disrupted lessons, riots and a spate of vandalism and arson against the education system

Presumably you are not arguing that such violence would be justified. So do you, then, have such a low opinion of some of your fellow muslims that you see arson as their inevitable response to a clothing restriction?

(To clarify, I’m not in favour of banning a limited form of hijab, ie headscarf, provided it conforms to schools uniform policy and is not restrictive. I’m not in favour of banning other religious symbols either.)

Interesting the deafening silence on whether arson would be an appropriate response to a clothing restriction in schools.

interesting how important you think your own comments are, kafir - we should drop everything, read your words carefully, and respond to your hate-filled implications that ‘we muslims want to torch schools that let girls go without hijab’ even though it’s quite implicit that 90% of those posting live in countries where 90% of those in those countries go without hijab anyways? What’s ironic is that you don’t even carefully respond to us, you must have some knee-jerk reactionary guide-book that you read from: ‘muslim says this, it means: taqiyyah, hate, violence. respond like this’

You like black and white, no moral distinction? how’s this ‘millatun kafirun wahida’ ‘the disbelievers are one group’, ie, you always say the same dumb rhetoric without listening and considering muslim’s beliefs: ie, we believe in the Qur’an being a revelation and the Prophet Muhammed (sal Allahu alayhi wa Salaam) being a true Messenger of God, everything else we defend about Islam (and not necessarily about muslims, God knows) stems from that. You hate that, don’t believe it, and loathe us for that. We understand that, listen to you, but don’t have to like or accept your disbelief. Understand?

It isn’t me who said that banning the hijab in schools might provoke arson, it is Yusuf Smith, as you can see in the direct quotation above.. This comment is alarming and it is reasonable to ask what he means by it. So far, however, he has been unwilling or unable to answer.
