Blogistan - Muslim group blog

I've decided at long last to do something with my root directory (which was originally going to be a directory of Muslim blogs until I decided I was dissatisfied with the content of some of them) and with my multi-user personal Movable Type licence. Blogistan, the name a lot of folks give this blog, is now live. I intend that it be a group blog reflecting "an authentic, moderate face of Islam in Britain".

Blogistan is meant to be a Muslim counterweight to a number What I intend is that a group of regulars contribute religious and social commentary, reviews, lifestyle articles, media monitoring and the occasional interview. Not exactly an extension of IJB as it would obviously reflect the personalities of the contributors, but offering what I can't here by myself. While it would have a British focus, occasional articles from outside the Isles might be posted as well, insha Allah.

The site may also be a kind of think-tank - a kind of place where Muslims can pool opinions; I also intend that in its media-monitoring function it becomes a counterweight to certain hysterical sites run by young and immature Muslims. What I don't want includes rumour (like the food rumours which pop up from time to time), sectarian propaganda, overheated rhetoric, conspiracy theories and other material which brings the community into disrepute.

Although I would take on the role of moderator (or chief moderator), I don't plan to censor anyone's posts, but comments would have to be controlled due to the problem of spam and trolls who monopolise the discussion by responding immediately with inflammatory comments. TypeKey is in operation, and a similar authentication system exists there as here: non-registered comments are always moderated, while if you register at TypeKey, I can put you on the trusted commenters list and your comments will be approved automatically. (That's a reminder to some of the regulars here as well.)

I'd particularly like to hear from those occasional bloggers, and some ex-bloggers, who perhaps cannot sustain a blog of their own - there's strength in numbers as the saying goes. Some of these people did some of the best writing. But not just from these people. If anyone is interested, please write me at indigojo _ uk [at] yahoo [point] co [point] United Kingdom. (Initials, of course.)

Great idea, Yusuf. I'm glad you're spearheading this. I do think group blogs are the way to go.
