With the ongoing saga of the ongoing troubles on the Northern or “Misery” Line (caused by the drivers’ unions’ refusal to drive unsafe trains), I just thought I’d point out a letter in tonight’s Evening Standard from one TM Baiklock of Teddington. He points out the main shareholder in the maintenance consortium is Ferrovial of Spain, which was one of the main corporate sponsors of Madrid’s failed bid for the 2012 Olympics. It’s now responsible for a billion-Euro investment in the improvements to the Underground in the run-up to London’s Olympics. Make of that what you will. Technorati tag: northern line.

Interesting. I’ve always thought they should just allow Japan Rail to run the whole British network. They haven’t had a single accident or fatality since the 60s and the trains always arrive within 10 seconds of scheduled time. London is just dreadful. I’ve been here nearly two months and there’s never been a day when all Tube lines have been working.
“(caused by the drivers’ unions’ refusal to drive unsafe trains)”
Unions don’t drive trains. Drivers do. Drivers have refused to drive unsafe trains. Their unions (I would be surprised here if both tube unions are involved, in fact) - have supported their members.
How much subsidy does Japan Rail get?
