now don't get me wrong - back in the day -like centuries ago- when Islam gave women rights that didn't exist in civil law yes it would have made sense to have 'sharia' courts to uphold those rights that wouldn't otherwise have been granted by the law of the land. its different now..that the rest of the world has caught up. so for example the canada thing - i dont see why you'd need to have a separate sharia court - can anyone come up with an example? isnt there a danger - if there isnt a good reason - of looking like muslims have fundamentally different values instead of the same fundamental human rights-y type ones- and just wanting to be different.

im curious now - id like some impartial info please - where's the basis of this 'worker commie' stuff?

and are you sure you're not bashing her because you might be in favour of sharia courts ( well i dont know that you are..but you might be) i personally think they're a silly idea. who gets to regulate them? God? nope - a bunch of silly old conservative men for the most part. how do we know they they're going to be impartial? and apart from these nasty things about sex frankly i don't see why normal civil courts aren't fine. what do you think?

"Never mind the fact that Islamic adultery laws make it all but impossible to get to the stage of stoning someone" - yes my friend it might be the case that the rules say one thing but how often is it a bunch of ignoramuses go ahead and do what they like anyway? its not like no-one's been stoned is it.

The question is, are those who are so opposed to her liberals?

So she's a liberal, but only relative to her opponents? Well that
might be so, but Nick Cohen has used this entire article to damn the Cultural Relativism of the Left but hopes no one will notice when he shamelessly uses the same device himself. His hypocricy is only more ludicrous than his desire to base his eulogy to Namazie on the foolish notion that is 'My enemy's enemy is my friend'.

Maryam Namazie is not a liberal, and people who admire her "championing of women's rights" should be aware of this

The question is, are those who are so opposed to her liberals? Or is it totalitarianism all round?

*He says she sould be a liberal poster girl, i.e. a poster girl for liberals.*

Well, I'm not sure why as she's not a liberal. She's a communist. Big difference. She's pretty enough to be a poster girl, mind you, but that's not what he was talking about.

That wasn't the point, was it? The point was that Cohen, who has a record of exposing sectarian left participation in other people's causes, portrayed her as a liberal, when in fact she's not. Communists are by definition not liberals. And her definition of human rights may be different to that used by others, one in which one may be "compelled" to accept what someone else calls our "rights".
