Craig Murray has a piece in today's Guardian calling out Hazel Blears, a Home Office minister, for relaying a straightforward untruth regarding the so-called Islamic Jihad Union, a purported terrorist organisation operating in Uzbekistan, which is among the 15 organisations the government is in the process of banning. Blears relayed the Uzbek government's version of a series of bombings in March 2004, which do not tally with what Murray observed when he examined the scene in his capacity as ambassador. Murray suspects that the IJU in fact doesn't exist, and if it does, it is the product of Uzbek government agent provocateur activity. (The article is reproduced here at Murray's blog, along with transcripts of Parliamentary discussion of the matter.)
