Folks,

I was just wondering,,,.

How does this guy, mosawwi or whatever his name is compare to all these democratically elected mass murderers (they call them presidents, prime ministers, etc) that continue to jeopardise the lives of innocent civilians all around the world (for example in Iraq) with far more "sophisticated" (actually barbaric) and deadlier means.

Would these leaders ever be prosecuted, or our judicial system is only designed for petty criminals like mousawi?

I mean... some of these leaders have equally shown that they are willing to sacrifice the lives of the children of their voters in order to achieve their dubious purpose. We should try and balance these issues with the other ones that we are quick to opine on.

Just wondering what your views are on this. As it seems some of us are always quick to identify the illegal terrorists and quite merciless in condeming them (and rightly so), however we seem conditioned to turn a blind if not rotten eye to the legal terrorists. Only if we could open our eyes to these legal ones, perhaps the world would be a much better place for us all, and perhaps no one would want to commit suicide given how 'wonderful' the world is and give how much hope it would contain.

It was the correct sentence. Moussaoui got the one he didn't want. He will now die quietly in a jail cell. No terrorist or terrorist wannabe wants to die like that.

Moussaui- a combatant captured in civilian clothes- could be put against a wall and shot. I agree that the treatment the prisoners at Florence will receive is degrading and inhumane, but the fact is that people who have shown that they are willing to kill themselves in order to kill others are already obviously dangerous inmates. That doesn't mean that people should not be able to communicate and talk with others directly. Sensory deprivation- which is what lies ahead for them- is one of the most dehumanising things you can do to anyone.

I have no problem with a harsh prison setting for peopel convicted of sever offenses and it is betetr than the Western European model of giving people luxury jail cells, milk and cookies, and lessons in psycho-babble. However, what I do belive is that people convicted of political offenses, like Moussaui, should be snet to jails for poltical priosners and given political status.
