Bindel: I'm glad Arsenil lost

An amusing article from Julie Bindel (very rare indeed for me to agree with anything she writes) on why she's glad the Gunners lost in the match with Barça last night. Particularly interesting is this reason:

I have heard them shouting that their rivals, Tottenham [Hotspur, or Spurs], are "the Yids". Charming.

Strange, that, for a team that's just signed a promotional deal with the Israeli tourism authority, putting them in the same class as Man U and Chelski as teams whose opponents I'd support, no matter who they were.

Yusuf, that is not an article - its just a rant.

If I based my opinions about various sports teams upon the behavior of their fans (regardless of their location), I'd prolly not support any team whatsoever. The good thing about watching the EPL at such a remove geographically is that 99% of the commentary is about the game, the players and coaches. Rarely is anything said about the fans, either good or bad.

I do like the Gunners, and have enjoyed watching their game these past few years. Of course, I would have liked them for them to have won the Champions League, but I also like Barca enough that I'm not disappointed that they won either (a win-win situation for me).

Tottenham supporters call themselves "the Yids".

And it's not really an article, is it?

I saw the game on wednesday night, we were robbed!

I am a Barca fan in Spanish footie anyway, and a Celtic support in the UK, so I am glad when any top English team looses, especially the "fair weather" teams who gain so many supporters when they are doing good, only to loose them when they are not. Key example, Man UTD.

At last there is someone who also agrees with me as well. Arsenal deserved to lose, I only wish they only lost heavily.

What can Barcelona claim? They beat a 10 man team? woo hoo give em a pat on the back (i'm being sarcastic btw).

If they'd beaten an 11 man team that would have been something else.

As it is, it took them an hour to break down the Gunners defence with a man advantage.

Also, they fouled Arsenal left right and centre, and then scored a debatable goal. Did you see the way Henry got a yellow card after he was fouled by Van Bommel, how does that work? And lastly, our muslim bro Toure did a great job at the back, even though we lost he was man of the match for me!

I've had Van Persie is a convert too.

That's right, I think he converted under the guidance of someone who worked at his school in Holland, and his wife is moroccan. Also, I have heard that Pascal Cygan converted to Islam, but I don't know for sure. And then there's Abu Diaby, judging by his name and where he's from, but again I'm not sure.

Cygan is a convert? Alhumdulillah. You know what that means? It means i have to stop cussing him for his bad play now. But alhumdulillahi katheera!

When I was living in Derby with my husband I got all into football. Now that we are back in America, its the Lakers. Goodness. Anyway we were Liverpool fans.

Arsenal is the team with Terri Henri and Ashley Cole right? How do I remember that?

Thierry Henry. :)

Being a Muslim first, then an ardent Gooner, I have a coupla questions to ask people who are condemning Arsenal for an Israeli promotion. Firstly, why was there no fuss from the Muslim community when Malcolm Glazier bought off Man Utd? He is a jew who now OWNS the club!!! Is Arsenal Football Cluba Muslim club? NO! They obviously don't echo the sentiments of disgruntled Muslim fans and objectively, I don't think they've done any wrong, by embarking on this promotion. It probably is a lucrative business deal and it probably will expire. I sympathise and support the plight of the Palestinians and I am indeed disappointed that my loyalties have to be divided, but as tough as it may be, I have to separate the two.
