Whitaker: MCB elections this Sunday
Hey, I never knew that Iqbal Sacranie was stepping down myself until I read this. The Muslim Council of Britain is holding its leadership election this Sunday - they have an announcement here but no details of anyone who is standing to replace him. (Probably it will be one of the inner circle, unless the person chosen by that method is particularly controversial.) The group is not actually the representative of all the Muslims in this country (al hamdu lillah) and they are known to be dominated by certain ethnic groups, but the positions that made them most controversial recently are positions the community supported.
