I agree with Melanie Phillips “cultural cringe” viewpoint but then my family have only been here since 1066 and so this possibly doesn’t count (with a Shamil or Anand anyway)

I’m baffled by the seeming inability of anyone who confronts Phillips to launch an effective challenge to what she says. The worst thing is she leaves herself wide open. Her writings are so full of contradiction, inconsistancy and hypocracy that it’s an exceptionally easy task.

I also found that comment about the indigenous population amusing (as if she’s part of it). Judging by her articles she doesn’t seem to think much of the “indigenous population”.

It was a little amusing. Note also that Anita is an Asian woman, so perhaps that explained her sudden defensive at that point. That’s always the problem with phone-ins; no-one knows who it is who’s phoning in!
