		<description>Don&#039;t forget that for decades Ataturk had considerable prestige in the Muslim world because he managed to keep Turkey independent while most of the rest of the Muslim world fell under European colonial rule.  That probably explains why in the 20th century Shari&#039;ah regimes were relatively uncommon in the Muslim world, even after decolonization.  Too many people think this historical aberration is in fact the normal state of affairs in the region...
