    Assalamu Alaikum,

    Quite interesting article. It would have been nice if the writer had mentioned something about the honour in which mothers are supposed to be held in Islam (paradise being under the feet of the mother and so on). As it could be Islam as much as Catholicism that leads to the sons of North Afican immigrants getting upset at mother jokes. Cue the conveyor belt to violence comments! Having said that, the only insults referencing family members I personally ever heard in Algeria involved the father, as in, “you son of a cuckold”…
