I had to make my own. Yum yum, sandwich spread on some bread and a banana. No wonder I turned out this way.

Packed lunches are a good compromise where children have special dietary requirements for religious or health reasons and save the school the trouble of cooking special food. Of course children should not be forced to eat non-halal/kosher food and the French approach is wrong in this respect.

My school dinners were pretty horrible, and a good subject for morbid or jokey reminiscences about custard that managed to be thin and lumpy at the same time.

Assalaamu alaikum,

I think Jamie Oliver's done a lot of good, but I wouldn't agree with banning packed lunches, either. I pack my children's snacks for school (lunch is the main meal and is eaten at home at around 2 or 3 p.m.), and they might include sandwiches, fruit, cucumbers, juice, and milk. Their school does ban certain things like chocolate, potato chips (crisps), and sodas, which is fine with me.
