New Statesman on “spycams”
Brendan O’Neill (of Spiked fame) on the huge popularity of CCTV cameras in the UK, including a visit to a hidden “spy bunker” beneath London’s Trocadero centre, in which there are cameras looking at numerous locations in the West End. The UK has more than 20% of the world’s CCTV cameras, even though research shows that CCTV often doesn’t have a big impact on crime. (As with other New Statesman articles, you can load it once, but it then goes pay-per-view.)
