We’ve had the smoking ban for several years now, and the fallout has been negligible. There certainly have been pubs that are less frequented now than before due to the smoking ban, but for the most part, people are okay with taking their smoke breaks outside. And it’s definitely been a vast improvement for the non-smoking majority, as the old “smoking areas” would usually stink up entire restaurants and other public areas.

I don’t know if it has reduced smoking at all, but the initial furor over the smoking ban died off very quickly.
