Faraz talks about strong diversity in Québec, and I presume he feels that this is a good thing. But may I remind him that tolerance and open mindedness, which lead to diverse cultures being able to live together peacefully, are values associated with Western culture, and not with Muslim ideals. As more and more people living in the West see how muslim values are often intolerant and excluding of anything other than muslims and Islam, it is not surprising that we feel the need to introduce laws to protect our freedoms that we have fought so hard to have.

I understand and agree with most of your positions but have trouble with something about islam that i hope you can help me with. Why do you come down so hard on anything about the west's openness toward you when a city like mecca or even a whole country like Saudi Arabia wouldn't allow Christian Churches to be built?

I'm from Quebec. Your analysis of the situation is spot on, and echoes what we are saying over here. The whole Herouxville nonsense lead to a series of panel discussions on reasonable accommodation, which haven't lead to any real change unfortunately.

The push towards emulating France as much as possible, to further distance Quebec from the rest of the country, is alive and real. The Quebec sovereignty movement has been relatively quiet over the last ten years, but it is certainly not dead; they are just waiting for the right time to build it up again. All the recent controversies regarding Muslims and other minorities in Quebec are just what they are looking for to push separatism back into the spotlight.

Quebec, however, is nothing without Montreal, and Montreal is one of the most diverse cities in the world home to the second largest Muslim population in Canada. And within Montreal, Muslims are doing quite well for themselves masha-Allah, so I don't think a handful of bigots in a small town can unseat the strong diversity that continues to thrive in Quebec.
