I just wanted to comment on what you said about muslims finding difficulty with the union flag because of the "cross".

While the Union Flag is made up of other flags with crosses. I think that the Union Flag in itself is not now seen as a Christian symbol - but as a national symbol.

I would say that it is very distinct from a "crucifix" which is a Christian symbol.

As such I personnally do not see the harm in Amir Khan wearing a Union Flag.

(This is only my personal view).

(ps its only a Union Jack when flown on a ship)

I saw this article and wasn't sure what to think of it. I want to be proud to be British (although I am proud to be Muslim first of course), but I have never felt uncomfortable with that identity or with the flag, partly because of the cross and partly because I grew up associating the union jack with jack-booted skinheads marching down to West Ham in the 80's.

Its hard to say that though when you are supposed to be proving at every point that you are not one of those "extreme Muslims" but a "loyal, upstanding, moderate, opinionless Muslim" - maybe thats why we grab at people like Amir Khan as proof that we are not of "them".
