I wasn’t suggesting that an Islamist revolution in Turkey was likely, just that Turkey stands directly between the Middle East and Europe, while Israel doesn’t.

As far as I can tell the Islamist movement in Turkey is presently preoccupied with keeping a not exactly Islamist AK party in power by constitutional means; the threat of an Islamist revolution comes when all such means are frustrated, as happened in Iran.

I don’t see how the fall of Israel would threaten Europe, but might an Islamist revolution in Turkey pose a real threat?

It is not true that Europe has appeased Islam.

Are you sure? I suspect that allowing Muslims to live in the West at all is “appeasement” as far as Mel’s concerned. What makes Israel unique is that it’s the only Western or quasi-Western country where ethnic nationalists are not vilified as “Nazis” (for a very obvious reason).

Another thing, isn’t it strange how Islamophobes on the one hand claim that Islamic culture is inferior to Western culture, but on the other hand claim that the small Muslim minorities currently living in the West are an existential threat?

(They must be talking about a demographic threat, as military conquest of Europe by Islam is “ASB territory” to use the soc.history.what-if lingo…)
