I wasn't suggesting that an Islamist revolution in Turkey was likely, just that Turkey stands directly between the Middle East and Europe, while Israel doesn't.

As far as I can tell the Islamist movement in Turkey is presently preoccupied with keeping a not exactly Islamist AK party in power by constitutional means; the threat of an Islamist revolution comes when all such means are frustrated, as happened in Iran.

I don't see how the fall of Israel would threaten Europe, but might an Islamist revolution in Turkey pose a real threat?

Should the West unconditionally support the right of Israel to exist?

http://www.1party4all.co.uk/Home/Account/TopicForm.aspx?topicsId=108

Sample comment:

"The world's real problem is not the existence of Israel. Israel just happens to be on the front line of the conflict between Islam and the rest of the world..

The real problem is the resurgence of Extremist Islam. Extremist Islam is now the most coherent force in the Muslim world - so much so that it controls most of the Islamic world. This presents the non-Muslim world with the hard fact that Islam has at its core the implacable belief that God has ordered it to subjugate all non-muslims in the world by whatever means will achieve it.

Islam now has two footholds with which it is undermining the west. One foothold is the huge and growing numbers of Muslim immigrants in western countries.

The other foothold is the considerable number of westerners who are dedicated to leftism, political correctness and anti-semitism. These beliefs persuade them to believe that western society is corrupted and evil and that capitalism and Christianity and the USA and Jews are to blame for it. That of course is an attitude that Islamist extremists agree with take advantage of.

But what those western sympathisers forget or ignore is that Islamists regard them too as infidels and that the Islamists are just as dedicated to eventually subjugating or destroying all infidels - including the politically correct - as they are dedicated to subjugating and destroying Israel."

It is not true that Europe has appeased Islam.

Are you sure? I suspect that allowing Muslims to live in the West at all is "appeasement" as far as Mel's concerned. What makes Israel unique is that it's the only Western or quasi-Western country where ethnic nationalists are not vilified as "Nazis" (for a very obvious reason).

Another thing, isn't it strange how Islamophobes on the one hand claim that Islamic culture is inferior to Western culture, but on the other hand claim that the small Muslim minorities currently living in the West are an existential threat?

(They must be talking about a demographic threat, as military conquest of Europe by Islam is "ASB territory" to use the soc.history.what-if lingo...)

"Part, or perhaps the majority, of the Muslim Arabs in this country [Israel] descended from local inhabitants, mainly Christians and Jews, who had converted in the seventh century AD... These local inhabitants, in turn, were descendants of the core population that had lived in the area for several centuries, some even since prehistoric times. -[Full journal citation] (Note that several of the authors of the study are Israeli Jews.)
