Last I checked, sex in public is illegal in America, and I assume Europe (except for Netherlands, which allows it only at night)

This is absolutely disturbing. I cannot believe such people walk around being proud of such activities. I feel six years is bit too extreme. People make mistakes, and the best way to correct them, is perhaps to educate them about their actions. They should be informed that what they did was an act which the authorities of this state would not tolerate. Having to live with this shame of being caught, and the whole world becoming aware of a moment they thought was private and intimate, is a punishment itself. Subhanallah, six years is absurd.

We take our disabled son to a local country park but have to take care not to be there too late in the evenings in Summer, otherwise we risk bumping into doggers and gay cruisers. Six years seems just about right to me.
