Gajdusek’s behaviour was disgraceful, but the victims weren’t actually young boys but adolescents- young men in the cultures they came from, where what they and Gajdusek did was pefectly acceptable. The problem was Gajdusek’s use of his position of power and respect for his own gratification and that would still have been true regardless of the legality of his behaviour.
