A friend of mine used to drink in the same pub as Paul Dacre, former editor of the Daily Mail, now Lord High Panjandrum for all Associated Newspapers. It was probably the last pub in central London with a public bar, where the beer was a little cheaper and Dacre, on a million pounds a year plus bonuses, used to go there with an acolyte. Dacre forbade any of his underlings to go there in the week when he went there. The regular users of the bar thought they were a pair of second-hand car salesmen until one of them saw Dacre's picture in another newspaper, whereupon everyone pointedly ignored them except for one elderly Glaswegian who used to tell Dacre in full detail what he thought of him and his newspaper.
As a result, the locals were treated to the sight of the Voice of Middle England, the man who made Downing Street tremble, scaredly peering round the door to see if it was safe to go in for a slightly cheaper pint of beer.

Kayshan:

I can write whatever I like. It's my blog and I pay for it out of my own pocket.

I am not particularly bothered about wheelie bins actually. The point was to poke fun at the small-mindedness of one particular British tabloid and pull apart the speciousness of some of the claims.

Wheely bins!!!, wordpress accounts!!!!

All in the weeks when two BNP members have been elected to the European Parliament and there is an attempted coup in Iran, you talk about wheelie bins!!

Have you nothing to say about real issues any more.

Salaam Alaikum,

I don't know why, but I find it very amusing that you were a fan of Brookie.

It was indeed very good drama at one point, but then it lapsed into ridiculousness. It saddens me how little decent U.K produced drama there is, but that is another subject.

As for wheelie bins, I wish I had one. You're right they are far more convenient.

The bit I don't understand is when they say that you have to put out your wheelie bin on the pavement, not leave it in the driveway, otherwise they won't collect it. Surely with wheelie bins, it's easier for the bin men to handle, so I don't understand why they insist on that. But it's not a massive issue.
