Although I couldn't afford the coffee there, it was a good place to kill time while waiting for someone. Probably couldn't compete since it was so close to Waterstones. Waterstone's and Foyle's don't, while Borders do. I guess some bookshops don't want the books spoiled by coffee or greasy fingermarks, or people to just read the magazines over a coffee and never buy them; others allow them to be used for the purpose you mentioned.
