Buses have improved in the last decade; even if they hadn’t and even if Mr. Johnson shared your squeamishness, as a Green member of the London Assembly he is surely obliged to set an example by using public transport or following your example and walking.

It’s over a decade since I last went “partying” in London, but I remember I used to prefer a walk home than wait in rowdy queues of drunkards for an over-crowded bus.

Salaams, Tim, I have huge problems with the way ‘privilege’ is used on some websites (I’ve had it played on me on more than one occasion by women who wanted to dismiss my opinions), and may have a post coming out soon about that issue, but here, the guy took a fake minicab and told the world about it. I think his pillorying is quite justified.

Seems “privilege” is one of those buzz-words beloved of the blogosphere these days. It seems a bit far-fetched to say that he was showing “obvious contempt for women” - more likely, he made a snap decision out of desperation on a cold night.
