eric3 version 3.9.0 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 3.9.0 of eric3, a Python IDE which uses PyQt and QScintilla, has been released. The new version contains bug fixes, "a few usability enhancements", support for Qt 4 and PyQt 4, and support for functions new to subversion from version 1.2.0. Screenshots here, downloads here. According to the home page, eric3 supports PyQt from version 3.6 but not 3.9; see homepage for full requirements.

Beesoft Commander v2.20 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 2.20 of Beesoft Commander, a Qt-based file manager similar to Norton Commander, which also doubles as an FTP client, has been released. Changes include multiple tabs in each panel, and three other user-interface related improvements. Screenshots are on the homepage; download here (source, zipped binary, and links to various distribution-specific binaries). Requires Qt 3.

PC-BSD 1.0 released

The first non-beta version of the FreeBSD-based distro PC-BSD, has been released (announcement here). This version features FreeBSD 6.0 and KDE 3.5.2, and is available in a downloadable ISO (here; one ISO for the system and a second for languages other than English) or on CDs bought from their online shop. PyQt 4 beta released; SIP update

Riverbank Computing announces that a first beta of PyQt version 4 has been released. This version supports Qt 4 and can be installed alongside other versions of PyQt. Version 4.4.3 of SIP has also been released. This is a bug-fix release, and is required for anyone using PyKDE, PyQt with MacOS, or PyQt 4.

QCanvas to be dumped

The KDE blogs have revealed that the QCanvas class is to be obsoleted in Qt 4.2, with a new class called QGraphicsView taking its place. Zack Rusin writes that the new class "is actually a lot, lot better at being a canvas than QCanvas ever could"; Anne-Marie Mahfouf writes that "QCanvas was awkward to use and too limited, it seems that QGraphicsView is very promising". I've not found any other details.

Syntext Serna v2.6.0 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 2.6.0 of Syntext Serna, a commercial Qt-based XML content editor which can be used to edit DocBook files, has been released. Changelog lists "major DITA enhancements" in the enterprise edition and three other feature enhancements. Screenshots (with commentary) here; feature list and pricing here. Prices start from $89 for a single-user personal edition, with a triple-user single-platform enterprise edition for $1,185 (prices rise with additional platforms and users); site licences and a free trial are also available.

Beesoft Commander v2.19 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 2.19 of Beesoft Commander, a Qt-based two-panel file manager similar to Norton Commander which also serves as an FTP client, has been released. This version contains a number of minor new features including the switching of panels using Ctrl+S (the full changelog is inside the source bundle). Knoda v0.8.1 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 0.8.1 of knoda, a KDE front end for various SQL databases, has been released. This version includes an improved report generator and query editor, 64-bit support and many bug fixes (see KDE Apps for more details). Linux Standards Base 3.1 includes Qt

The new version of the Linux Standards Base, version 3.1, now includes the open-source version of Qt version 3.3 and its accompanying tools, along with "an optional module for including Qt 4-based applications into main Linux distributions" (see also Trolltech announcement). The new standard is released today at the Desktop Linux Summit in San Diego, and is endorsed by a number of major Linux vendors; the first compliant distro is expected to be Xandros's May 1st release. Qt is included because the licensing controversies have been settled, and because the LSB standardises what all the major distributors include, and they all include Qt.

Freehand Gestures 0.4 released

Version 0.4 of Freehand Gestures, a program allowing applications to be opened using pre-programmed mouse gestures, has been released. This version includes a new configuration subsystem, "config options for OSD colors and behavior", and various internal changes and code reorganisations. KBarcode v2.0.2 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 2.0.2 of KBarcode, the barcode and label printing app for KDE, has been released. This version has fixes for the application's SQL database access functions, and other minor fixes. Screenshots here, downloads (source, SUSE 10 RPM and link to Slackware packages) here.

Piklab 0.7 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 0.7 of Piklab, an IDE for applications based on the PC and dsPIC microcontrollers (full list here), has been released. This version adds support for a number of new devices and fixes some bugs; see changelog at KDE Apps. Screenshots here, downloads (source, Mandriva and Slackware binaries) here. KDE in the Google Summer of Code

From the KDE Developer Journals:

Cornelius Schumacher reports on KDE's participation in Google's upcoming Summer of Code 2006. There is a list here of projects and ideas for projects, which cover a variety of areas of KDE if not the whole system. The project is financially supported by Google and is for students.

PyKDE & SIP updates

Riverbank Computing announces that a new snapshot of PyKDE has been released, providing full support for KDE 3.5.2. It requires SIP v4.4.1 or later. They have also released SIP (the library on which PyQt depends) version 4.4.2, a bug fix release which does not require the recompilation of PyQt, but which will be required for PyQt version 4.

Smb4K v0.7.0 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 0.7.0 of Smb4K, a Samba browser for KDE (i.e. a program for browsing Windows file systems over networks) has been released. The changelog is long and includes many bug fixes and user interface improvements (see KDE Apps page); the main change is the mandatory use of Samba 3 and "the introduction of a usable handbook" (albeit one which is still a work in progress). KMobileTools v0.4.3.3 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 0.4.3.3 of KMobileTools, a KDE app for controlling mobile phones (SMS, dialling, reading from call registers and power and signal status monitoring), has been released. This version has three bug fixes, notably fixing compilation on FreeBSD and on gcc 4.1. Requires KDE 3.2. kdesvn 0.8.2 released

Version 0.8.2 of kdesvn, a KDE client for the source-control system Subversion, has been released. This version adds a Spanish translation, and a number of bug fixes. Screenshots here, downloads (source, FC4 and FC5 RPM) here.

Gambas: new development version

From KDE Apps:

A new development version of Gambas, an open-source Visual Basic-like IDE for KDE or Qt, has been released. Fixes in version 1.9.29 include the MySQL driver correctly handling BLOBs, and that the system should work correctly on FreeBSD; for full details, see the changelog. Source download here.

Kubuntu beta released

The first LTS (long-term support) beta of Kubuntu 6.06 "Dapper Drake" has been released. New features include KDE 3.5.2, X.org 7.0, improved start-up times and a new graphical installer available on the live CD. Kubuntu is as usual available either independently or as an additional download on top of the GNOME-based Ubuntu. For full details see the announcement. (This release contains Qt 4.1.0, which, unless they've done some back-porting work, includes the much discussed slow QTextEdit class.)

Osqoop 0.9.0 released

Version 0.9.0 of Osqoop, "the Open Oscilloscope" which uses Qt 4 and runs on Linux and Windows, has been released. Can't find any changelog for this release; screenshots and downloads (source and Windows binary) on the home page.

Tellico update

From KDE Apps:

Version 1.1.5 of Tellico, the KDE personal collections database, has been released. The new version has a number of bug fixes and minor improvements, including an updated Spanish translation. Screenshots here, downloads (source and various binaries) on the left sidebar of the home page. Requires KDE/Qt 3.2, libxml2, libxslt1 1.0.19 (various recommended libraries; see homepage).

Koppermine 1.1 released

Version 1.1 of Koppermine, a KDE client for the Coppermine photo-gallery system, has been released. This version adds image rotation and mirroring, and "we try to retain" the image EXIF information after modifying it. Screenshots here, download (source and FC4/FC5 RPM) here.

Reveal v1.1 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 1.1 of Reveal, a cross-platform EXIF metadata viewer which uses Qt 4.1, has been released. This version adds internationalisation and upgrades the app to Qt 4, with dozens of other enhancements over the last version (see KDE Apps). Kalva v0.8.76 released

Version 0.8.76 of Kalva ("Kalva is a lightweight Video Application") has been released. This version fixes compiler issues, allowing compilation on FC5, and a bug concerning the device combo for aumix; it also "restarts running MPlayer (preview) when choosing profiles". Bibble v4.7 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 4.7 of Bibble, a commercial "professional workflow and RAW conversion" package which uses Qt and runs on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X, has been released. The new version offers "perfectly clear one-click image correction", vibrance enhancement control, and support for the Canon EOS 30D SLR camera (feature list here), with some screenshots clearly taken on Linux). Two versions are available; the lite version costs $69, while pro costs $129. Shareware download is available.

Kerry 0.1 released

KDE hacker Stephan Binner has released version 0.1 of Kerry, the KDE client for Beagle, the Mono-based desktop search facility. This version, which will be included in SUSE Linux 10.1 (and is already in the beta versions), has 18 language translations and requires libbeagle 0.2.0 at least. Kim 0.9.0 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 0.9.0 of Kim (KDE Image Menu), a KDE service menu allowing manipulation of images, has been released. This version allows exports of animated GIFs, Flash slideshows (for all image formats), and HTML galleries, and some other improvements. Requires KDE 3.3. KBlogger 0.5.1 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 0.5.1 of KBlogger, a Kicker applet for posting to blogs using the Blogger and MetaWeblog APIs, has been released. This version adds automatic category fetching for the MetaWeblog API (the Blogger API has no support for categories), and has various bug fixes. Trolltech released Qtopia Platform

Trolltech has announced its release of the Qtopia Platform as part of its Qtopia 4 series. The Platform is "an application framework for the efficient creation of Linux-based devices with a rich multi-application user experience), and features a safe execution environment (SXE), a plug-in framework which "offers a development environment for new features including modem drivers, media codecs and input methods", and allows Java applications to use a native look-and-feel. They have also announced the new Qtopia 4 Phone Edition.

SIP v4.4.1 released

Riverbank Computing reports that it has released version 4.4.1 of SIP, the library behind its PyQt bindings. This is a bug-fix release which does not require PyQt to be rebuilt. Changelog here, source downloads here.

QtiPlot 0.8.2 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 0.8.2 of QtiPlot, a freeware clone of the scientific plotting app Origin, has been released. This version adds support for templates, improves the behaviour of Matrix objects, and adds an "almost complete" Spanish translation to the binary; there are also various fixes (including to problems affecting Mac OS X Tiger users). Requires Qt 3 (3.2.1 up to 3.3.6; for full requirements list see homepage). Source downloads here; binaries are available from the same page for a 10 euro donation. Tellico v1.1.4 released
