Konversation v1.0 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 1.0 of Konversation, the KDE IRC client, has been released. New features include a vertical treelist of tabs as an alternative to the traditional tab bar, auto-replacement of words in incoming and outgoing messages, an improved Channel Settings dialog now featuring a ban list, an optional expanding input box and many improvements to both DCC file transfers and DCC chats (the changelog, on the home page, is substantial). Screenshots here, downloads (source, Gentoo ebuild and Debian, Arch, Ark, FreeBSD, Kubuntu, SUSE and Slackware binaries) from home page. Requires KDE 3.4.

KMyMoney v0.8.5 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 0.8.5 of KMyMoney, "the Personal Finance Manager for the wonderful KDE", has been released. This has a very long changelog, with changes to the GUI, GnuCash and QiF import, the build system, the documentation and internationalisation; among them is a fix to a crash which occurred when opening and changing files. Gambas: new development version released

From KDE Apps:

A new development version of Gambas, the Visual Basic-like IDE for KDE (although it can produce applications for other toolkits), has been released. Version 1.9.41 has updated GTK+ and SDL components, the online help using a web browser, and experimental support for component developing in the IDE. Full changelog here; the IDE, interpreter, the Qt, GTK, database and SDL modules and the examples have seen changes. Screenshots here, downloads (source only) here. Stable version is 1.0.17, from same download location.

Dolphin File Manager v0.6.2 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 0.6.2 of the Dolphin File Manager, the KDE file manager with a navigation bar and an undo/redo function, has been released. This version adds support for KDE session management, improved error messages, initial user documentation, and various other improvements and bug fixes (see changelog at KDE Apps). Qt Jambi: second preview released

Trolltech has announced that it has released a second preview of Qt Jambi, its Java bindings for Qt. The three main features Trolltech lists are Web Start support, better Eclipse integration and single JAR file deployment for Jambi apps. It also incorporates much feedback from those who tested it and contains many bug fixes. It can be downloaded here; it is released under a special preview licence.

KTorrent v2.0.2 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 2.0.2 of KTorrent, the KDE BitTorrent client, has been released. I cannot find any changelog but they assure us that it "fixes some serious issues" and an upgrade is recommended. Screenshots here, downloads (source, SUSE, Ubuntu and Arch Linux binaries) here. Requires KDE 3.4 and the GNU MP (libgmp) library.

neurALC v1.0.0 released

Kbib v0.5.2.1 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 0.5.2.1 of KBib, "a BibTex management program for KDE" (BibTex being a tool for formatting bibliographic references in LaTeX), has been released. This fixes a bug introduced in version 0.5.2, whereby reference types were lost after modifying reference type definitions. Screenshots here, downloads (source, FC5 RPM) here. Requires KDE v3.

Okular snapshot released

A snapshot of Okular, the KDE4 multi-format document viewer based on KPDF, has been released. It can be downloaded here and works with the KDE4 snapshot, "Krash", released a couple of weeks ago. There are some screenshots of Okular in action here.

New CMake IRC channel

New: CMake IRC channel

A new IRC channel has been set up to discuss CMake, the cross-platform make tool being used for KDE 4 as a replacement for the GNU Autotools. It is to be found on the Freenode IRC network.

KDE4 Mac packages released

Tales of the Racoon Fink: KDE4/Mac Binaries

Benjamin Reed has produced binaries of the recently-released snapshots of KDE4 (codenamed Krash) which run on the Aqua version of Qt for the Mac. The five Universal Binaries (kdepimlibs, kdebase, kdelibs, kdesupport and Qt) can be found here along with installation instructions. They work with Tiger only at present (though Panther packages are in preparation). Note: the Qt binary is the 4.2 snapshot, not the current 4.1.4.

KNemo v0.4.5 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 0.4.5 of KNemo (KDE Network Monitor), an app which displays an icon in the systray for every network interface it monitors, has been released. This version must be started using its Control Centre module, rather than the Service Manager as before; it also fixes the calculation of transfer speeds and "counting of transmitted data for sys backend"; the status dialog has also been redesigned. Source download and three screenshots at KDE Apps. Requires KDE 3.5.

kdesvn v0.9.2 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 0.9.2 of kdesvn, the KDE Subversion client, has been released. This version fixes a UTF-8 encoding issue and a problem with case-sensitivity in certain locales, updates five of the translations and answers a feature request I can't quite decipher (see changelog on KDE Apps for full details). Screenshots here, downloads (source and FC5 RPM and SRPM) here. Requires KDE 3.4; the binaries require 3.5, the standard on FC5.

Kile v1.9.2 released

Version 1.9.2 of Kile, "a user friendly TeX/LaTeX editor for the KDE desktop environment", has been released. The changelog for this stable version lists fourteen bug fixes (see KDE Apps). cb2Bib v0.6.90 released

Version 0.6.90 of cb2Bib, an application for extracting bibliographic references from email alerts, webpages and PDFs, has been released. This version involves a port to Qt 4 from Qt 3 and no major new functionality. QTM v0.3.9 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 0.3.9 of QTM, the blog management application developed by the author of this blog using Qt 4.1, has been released. This version uses DOM to build submissions to the web service, rather than generating XML in plain text as in previous versions, thus reducing rejections on grounds of XML invalidity, and fixes a number of crash bugs emanating from accessing web services without the proper details (username, password and location). Screenshots here, downloads (source, SUSE 10.1 RPM and Mac OS X universal binary) here. Note that this application is presently only suitable for blogs which support the MetaWeblog and Movable Type APIs; it does not presently support Blogger.

Gwenview: new development version 1.3.93

Version 1.3.93 of Gwenview, the image viewer and browser for KDE, has been released. This version now uses the same delete dialog as Amarok and Juk and fixes several bugs, including one affecting the generation of thumbnail images. KScope v1.4.1 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 1.4.1 of KScope, a C source browsing application (front end to CScope), has been released. This version fixes several bugs (including crashes and memory leaks) and features faster result list filtering, keyboard shortcuts for the first entries in the Window menu, and shows assembly labels in the tag list. Beesoft Commander v2.27 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 2.27 of Beesoft Commander, the twin-panel file manager and FTP client, has been released. This version adds a Czech translation and fixes a bug involving button behaviour in FTP. Screenshots on home page, downloads (source, TGZ binaries, links to distro binaries) here. Requires Qt 3.

K3b v0.12.17 released

Version 0.12.17 of K3b, the KDE CD and DVD burning application, has been released. This version includes more compilation fixes for FreeBSD, fixes symlink handling on data projects (bug introduced in 0.12.16) and has various other bug fixes and minor improvements (see changelog at KDE Apps). Amarok v1.4.2 released

Version 1.4.2 of Amarok, the KDE music player and archiver, has been released. New features (not necessarily since the last RC/beta) include DAAP support, enabling connection to the iTunes and Firefly services, dynamic collections, enabling the use of removable media to hold part of the collection, improved crossfading on xine-engine, MTP media device support, support for LibVisual v0.4 and for extended Last.fm streaming, and a number of bugfixes including some facilitated by Klocwork. KDE gets new server "Immanuel"

The KDE project has been donated a new dual 3Ghz Xeon Poweredge server by Dell, with disks paid for by community donations, which is to be hosted at the Leibnitz Computing Centre. The server, immanual.kde.org is now the KDE FTP master site and work has begun on porting the KDE bug tracking system to the new server. Full details at KDN above.

kFlickr v0.7 released

Version 0.7 of kFlickr, the KDE Flickr image uploader, has been released. This version fixes a bug that crashed the app when opening a context menu, updates translations and adds an image border. Piklab v0.11 released

KTorrent bug fix release 2.0.1 out

TaskJuggler v2.3.0 beta released

A first beta of version 2.3.0 of TaskJuggler, "a modern and powerful project management tool" whose approach is said to be "far superior to the commonly used Gantt chart editing tools", has been released. Serenity theme v1.1 released

Version 1.1 of the KDE theme Serenity, a very smooth theme with a matching window decoration which intends to remove as many lines as possible, has been released. This version adds the ability to accelerate or slow down the opening of pop-up submenus, faster gradient routines, three new button styles for the window decoration, and many more bug fixes and improvements (see changelog at KDE Look). Gambas: new development version

A new development version of Gambas, the Visual Basic-like development environment for Unix, has been released. Version 1.9.38 contains a large number of bug fixes in the IDE and the Qt, form, database, SDL and sound modules, notably the use of OpenGL by the SDL module for 2D and 3D drawing. KMobileTools v0.5 beta released

A first beta of KMobileTools version 0.5 has been released. KMT is a KDE app for controlling mobile phones, such as SMS control, dialling calls, phone book and phone status monitoring, which can be embedded in Kontact. This version features a whole rewrite of the codebase, including full phonebook support, plugin support, new Wizards to automate several tasks, a new look, more devices supported, and a whole lot more (more than the developer[s] can remember). Polyester theme: first beta released

A first beta of version 1.0 of the Polyester KDE theme has been released. This version contains a number of bug fixes, including one which caused the Opera menu bar to use the wrong colours, and various cosmetic improvements. KDE 4: first developer snapshot

A first developer snapshot of KDE 4, codenamed Krash, has been released. The release is intended for developers who want to play with parts of KDE 4's new technology or start porting their apps to KDE 4; it's not intended for end users. It consists of three source packages available here, kdelibs, kdepimlibs and kdebase, and uses the Qt 4.2 snapshot released in July. It also contains the Phonon multimedia backend, DBus inter-process communication and uses CMake rather than GNU Autotools. No binaries will be released and other KDE 4 technologies are missing.

A first release candidate of Filelight, which "allows you to understand exactly where your diskspace is being used by graphically representating your filesystem as a set of concentric segmented-rings", has been released. This version fixes "all known bugs", and adds the ability to click the centre of the diagram to go up a directory and adds a "copy" function to the context menu. Ubuntu hardware database: KDE client released

Kubuntu HWDB | www.kdedevelopers.org

Jonathan Riddell (Ubuntu hacker and publisher of the KDE 3.5.3/4 binaries for Ubuntu) has released a hardware database client with a KDE front end; it uses PyQt4. There is also a GNOME version and it's expected to be included in the upcoming "Edgy" release this autumn. Packages can be downloaded here (I think you need the "common" package and either the GNOME or KDE binary). Feedback to here.

Trolltech to launch "Greenphone"

Trolltech is to launch a mobile phone specifically for Qtopia phone edition software development. Greenphone is to be part of a Qtopia Software Developer Kit and will have its application software "opened" for development purposes, according to the press release. The phone is not intended as a commercial mobile phone. The device is presented by Trolltech here, with pictures and specifications.

QIde v0.17 released

Version 0.17 of the Qt4-based IDE QIde has been released. This version adds code completion, a bottom-of-page find feature (as on Firefox), go-to-line and replace dialogs and the ability to change the background colour. Screenshots here, downloads (source only) here. (Hat tip: Johan Thelin.)

KRename v3.0.12 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 3.0.12 of KRename, a bulk file renaming tool for KDE which integrates into Konqueror and Krusader, has been released. This fixes gcc 2.95 compatibility, updates the German, Italian and Spanish translations, fixes a crash bug, fixes remote drag and drop which had been broken before, and integrates correctly into Konqueror's service menu. KDE Ruby IRC channel started

As a result of a recent increase in interest in Ruby in the KDE community, a freenode IRC channel, #kde-ruby, has been started. Both newbies and experienced hackers are welcome. The channel is controlled by a powerful bot, "insanity", written in Ruby.

KBlogger sidebar v0.3 released

Version 0.3 of KBlogger Sidebar, a sidebar plugin for Konqueror based on Christian Wellbach's KBlogger, has been released. This version adds a new icon and optional Blogger API title support. A screenshot and source package download is available at KDE Apps, above. Requires KDE 3.3 or above.

KAlarm: new stable and beta versions

A new stable version (1.4.4) and a beta version (1.9.0beta) of KAlarm, the KDE scheduling application, have been released. Version 1.4.4 contains improved translations (including a new Galician one), bug fixes (including for one crash bug), and two other improvements (see changelog at KDE Apps). The beta contains "the new facility to use multiple alarm resources, and to share resources", allowing the sharing of alarm calendars between computers. Screenshots here, downloads (source, Debian Etch binary for 1.4.4) here. Version 1.4.4 requires KDE 3; version 1.9.0 requires KDE 3.2 or later.

KScope v1.4.0 released

Version 1.4.0 of KScope, a "source browsing and editing environment for large projects written in C" which uses the Cscope engine, has been released. This version adds an option (on by default) to sort the file list when loading a project, updated documentation, three UI improvements and three bug fixes. Registration open for Qt Developer Days

Trolltech has opened registration for this October's Developer Days, which are to take place in Munich on the 11th and 12th and San Jose, CA, on the 26th and 27th. Keynote speakers are to be Jose Carlos Arcas of Siemens AG Automation and Drives EA in Munich and Bjarne Stroustrup, inventer of C++, in San Jose. KTorrent v2.0 out

Version 2.0 of KTorrent has been released, containing a number of bug fixes since the release candidate. As for new features, they include support for distributed hash tables, protocol encryption, bandwidth scheduling, a directory scanner to automatically load torrents in certain directories, the ability to add trackers to torrents and file prioritisation for multi-file torrents. Scribus v1.3.3.3 released

Version 1.3.3.3 of Scribus, the open-source DTP app, has been released. This app contains "a number of color management improvements, text frame fixes, font handling fixes and UI translation updates" and will now detect the ps2write device on all platforms.
