Trolltech Releases Qt 4.4 Beta with Windows CE version

Trolltech Releases Qt 4.4 Beta — Trolltech

Trolltech has released a first beta of version 4.4 of Qt, its cross-platform desktop and embedded platform application toolkit. The major new features in this release are:

  • A web browser widget, based on WebKit (itself based on KDE's KHTML)
  • Added support for Windows CE (apparently because of which Qtopia Core has been renamed Qt for Embedded Linux)
  • Multimedia framework based on the KDE Phonon project
  • Enhanced XML support, with XQuery 1.0 support
  • Concurrency framework, allowing multi-threading without mutexes and other safety features
  • Interprocess communication framework
  • New help system, with a range of help classes instead of a standalone application

Qt v4.3.4 released

Version 4.3.4 of Qt, the cross-platform desktop application toolkit, has been released (there has been no update to Qtopia, the embedded device version, as yet). Main changes:

  • Adds GPL 3 to list of permitted licences
  • Mac binary package supports development on Leopard (v10.5)
  • Bug fixes to 8 classes, including QApplication and QCoreApplication
  • Other bug fixes, including to the build system

LyX v1.5.4 released

From Qt Apps:

Version 1.5.4 of LyX, the GUI-based document processor which produces TeX and PDF files, has been released. Changes include:

  • Major improvements to Chinese, Japanese and Korean language support
  • Improvements to documentation translations in several European languages
  • New LyX math manual (in English, French & German)
  • Various crash bugs fixed

Gambas v2.2.1 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 2.2.1 of Gambas, the Visual Basic-like programming environment for Unix with a KDE-based IDE, has been released. Along with versions 2.2.0 and 2.1.0, both of them released in the last week, it contains a number of new features and bug-fixes, among them the ability to run most bytecodes on both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures, an updated help system, and the ability to compile on OpenBSD; see changelog here. Smb4K v0.9.3 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 0.9.3 of Smb4K, the KDE Samba share browser (which enables accessing of Windows shares), has been released. Changes:

  • Revised and optimized the code of the password handler. One consequence is, that the format of the wallet entries is not compatible with previous versions!
  • Fixed a regression in the network browser.
  • Fixed an unmount problem that occurred when mount.smbfs is indeed a symlink to or a copy of mount.cifs.
  • The mount command now always includes the NetBIOS name of the local host.

KDE v3.5.9 released

The KDE project has announced the release of version 3.5.9 of the KDE desktop. Major changes:

  • Merging of the KDE-PIM Enterprise branch into the stable branch
  • A new "favourite" email folders view in KMail, with drag & drop support for folders
  • Easier scheduling in KOrganizer through various improvements in the user interface
  • Improvements in KAlarm and KAddressbook

KDevelop v3.5.1 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 3.5.1 of KDevelop, a multi-language IDE for KDE (which is not limited to developing KDE applications), has been released. This version has improvements to the debugger, code completion and Subversion support; it has 91 bug fixes, listed here. Screenshots here, downloads (source with various binaries) here. Requires KDE 3.4.

Synkron v1.2 released

From Qt Apps:

Version 1.2 of Synkron, a tool for synchronising directories (such as those on hard drives with removable storage devices), has been released. Changes include:

  • added Arabic and Japanese translations
  • improved portability
  • periodical sync option moved to Scheduler
  • multisyncs added to Scheduler
  • propagated remove and rename function integrated into Windows Explorer
  • clone folder 1/sources option
  • enhanced Restore
  • enhanced Mac support
  • several bug fixes

KTorrent v3.0 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 3.0 of KTorrent, the BitTorrent client for KDE, has been released. This is the first stable release for KDE 4; the old version (v2.x for KDE 3) will now receive bug fixes only. There is a single screenshot on the front page (and plenty of old KDE 3 screenshots) along with a source download.

SIP v4.7.4 released

Riverbank Computing has announced the release of version 4.7.4 of SIP, the tool for producing Python bindings for C and C++ libraries, like Qt. This is mainly a bug fix release, including the correct handling of the Python package directory structure used in MacOS v10.5. Downloads here.

QTM v0.5.7 released

From Qt Apps:

Version 0.5.7 of QTM, the blog management application with a Quickpost feature similar to that of certain blogging systems, has been released. Changes:

  • New feature: "Copy title", allowing the user to automatically name an entry after the online resource it is based on when quickposting
  • Improvement: now sorts the categories alphabetically, rather than in the apparent non-order in which they have previously appeared
  • Improvement: unedited, fresh Quickposts are no longer "dirty", i.e. if user tries to close the window, if will not prompt him to save
  • Removed: accept and reset buttons in the Quickpost Template configuration dialog; a new template is now "accepted" if any details are entered, while reset had intractable bugs and can be achieved in any case by cancelling and reopening the dialog
  • User interface: added What's This help to the preference item "Save passwords with entries"

New edition of CMake book published

A new edition of the book Mastering CMake, the official guide to programming the CMake pre-make tool used by KDE 4, has been published. This version has been updated to cover version 2.4 of the tool; it also covers CPack, the package building tool which comes with CMake. The index does not specifically mention Qt (though it does mention qmake, the Qt pre-make tool) but there is a 49-page section on standard CMake modules. The book has to be ordered from the Kitware website (same link as above) at present, and shipping outside the USA may be expensive.

KDE v4.0.1 released

From KDE website:

Version 4.0.1 of KDE has been released. Major changes include:

  • Konqueror, KDE's webbrowser has seen numerous stability and performance fixes in its HTML rendering engine KHTML, in its Flash plugin loader and in KJS, the JavaScript engine.
  • Stability problems have been addressed in components that are used all over the KDE codebase. Translations in this release are more complete.
  • KWin, the KDE window manager has improved detection of compositing support, some effects have been fixed.
  • Improvements to Okular, System Settings and KStars
  • New translations including Danish, Frisian, Kazakh and Czech

Eric4 v4.1.0 released

Version 4.1 of Eric4, the Python development environment which uses PyQt, has been released. Changes:

Squish v3.3 released

Froglogic have announced the release of v3.3 of Squish, its application testing tool. The full new feature list is here. Major new features affecting Qt developers:

  • Highly improved object map editor including live object map maintenance while the Spy is running
  • Generic script APIs for object and type introspection
  • New waitForObjectItem() function for improved synchronization of item view widgets

cb2Bib v0.9.3 released

From Qt Apps:

Version 0.9.3 of cb2Bib, a tool for extracting bibliographic references from emails, journal web pages and PDFs, has been released. Changes:

  • The PubMed entries in query information file netqinf.txt have been updated to prevent some references from not being retrieved.
  • An issue when parsing bibliographic keys from KBibTeX has been fixed.
  • A convenience bookmark menu has been added to the BibTeX editor.

Tellico v1.3 released

Version 1.3 of Tellico, the KDE application for managing personal collections (stamps, records, whatever) has been released. Changes:

  • Added board game collection, and data source for BoardGameGeek (requires ruby).

  • Added importers for Griffith, Referencer and Delicious Library
  • Added importer for PDF files
  • Added drag & drop for importing PDF, bibtex, and RIS files
