polishlinux.org reviews KDE 4 revision 790000

The polishlinux.org website has published a review of a development check-out of KDE 4.1, finding that it offers "better stability and performance" than any previous revision, crashing only once and "the performance was more than satisfactory". The author is confident that he will be able to let KDE 3 go once version 4.1 is out. Polish original here and Arabic translation here.

QtiPlot v0.9.4 released

From Qt Apps:

Version 0.9.4 of QtiPlot, a scientific plotting and data analysis application which uses Qt, has been released. Changes:

  • Use of modified Qwt 5.1 (from Subversion repository), supplied with QtiPlot
  • Improved export of 2D plots: no more white gaps between the axes.
  • Highly improved the speed of Table/Matrix values calculation when using muParser as script engine: QtiPlot is now five times faster then Origin 7.5 when working with matrices.
  • Fixed the numerical integration of data sets and added the possibility to integrate analytical functions.
  • Added 2D numerical integration for matrices.
  • Improved matrix undo/redo framework and fixed all possible memory overflows when working with matrices.
  • Improved the custom actions dialog.
  • Fixed a few minor bugs.

digiKam v0.9.4 - second beta released

From KDE Apps:

A second beta of version 0.9.4 of digiKam, the digital photo download and management application for KDE, has been released. Changes include:

  • Ability to decode RAW files in 16-bit colour without colour management
  • Support for colour themes
  • Added 2 options to setup image ordering with "File/Open Folder" action
  • Several bug fixes, including one that was making opening albums slow, and 3 crashes

KTorrent v3.01 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 3.01 of KTorrent, the BitTorrent client for KDE, has been released. This release contains a number of bug fixes, including for "several uncommon crashes". Screenshots (of the old KDE 3 version) here; source downloads from the home page. Requires KDE 4.

Plasma Themes Contest

From KDE Dot News:

The KDE Plasma team is inviting everyone to participate in a contest to create Plasma themes from which a select few will be chosen to be included as a part of the upcoming KDE 4.1 release. This can be done using SVG with a program like Inkscape, GIMP or Karbon; it does not require C++ programming knowledge. Deadline is 18th April this year. Kubuntu v8.04 (Hardy) beta released

A first beta of "Hardy Heron", version 8.04 (i.e. April 2008) of Kubuntu, the popular Debian-based Linux distro with a KDE desktop, has been released. Two versions of it will be released, a "rock solid" one with KDE 3.5.9, and a "remixed" one featuring KDE 4. Other major new features:

  • Easy configuring of desktop effects with Compiz in KDE 3
  • Amarok v1.4.8, featuring better iPod compatibility and iPhone and iPod Touch support
  • Auto-installing of codecs in Kaffeine
  • Wubi, allowing the install of Ubuntu into a Windows file-system without partitioning
  • Encrypted filesystems (other than for the /boot partition)
  • Write support for NTFS
  • Bulletproof X, a fail-safe X11 mode

Syntext Serna v3.6.0 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 3.6.0 of Syntext Serna, a commercial WYSIWYG XML editing application, has been released. Changes:

  • Enhanced DITA usability tools simplifying topic creation and work with references: xref, related link, topicref, and conref.
  • Navigation to the target element of the conref.
  • PDF publishing of DITA documents with Antenna House XSL Formatter.
  • Paginated and Normal document views.
  • Fixed a number of stability issues.

Yakuake v2.9.1 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 2.9.1 of Yakuake, a drop-down terminal for KDE modelled on a similar feature in the Quake game (and based on KDE's own Konsole terminal), has been released. Changes:

  • Starting Yakuake a second time now toggles the window state, making it possible to open and retract Yakuake from a panel button or by simply running the executable.
  • Disabled standard startup notifications ("Launch Feedback") for Yakuake.
  • Fixed Open/Retract action not working with versions of KDE 4 trunk (4.1) after March 10th, 2008.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause actions also available from the tab context menu to operate on the wrong session when triggered by keyboard shortcut and the context menu had been used previously.
  • Fixed the "Close Active Terminal", "Split Left/Right" and "Split Top/Bottom" actions not operating on the correct session when activated from the context menu of a tab other than the active tab.
  • Some additions to the KDE4FAQ file.

Gambas v2.4 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 2.4 of Gambas, a Visual Basic-like KDE for Unix with a KDE-based development environment, has been released. Major changes are bug fixes in the GTK and Qt modules and fixes to memory leaks; there are also fixes to the Web and Form modules and the IDE, and an update to the Spanish translation. digiKam v0.9.4 - first beta released

From KDE Apps:

A first beta of version 0.9.4 of digiKam, the digital photo download and management application for KDE, has been released. New features include:

  • a timeline tab in the left side-bar (see here)
  • a calendar view, a "new status-bar indicator to report album icon view filtering status" (see here)
  • updated CImg library to the latest stable version, v1.2.7
  • Colour themes applied consistently, giving a more professional look when dark themes are used
  • There are also bug-fixes; see changelog here.

Qt Jambi v4.3.4 released

Trolltech Releases Qt Jambi 4.3.4

Trolltech has released version 4.3.4 of Qt Jambi, its Java bindings for Qt. This "is a bug fix release, which solves a number of issues identified by testing and customer / open source user feedback". The changelogs are here for Jambi and here for Qt 4.3.4 itself. Trolltech has released a preview of version 4.4 of Qt Jambi, its Java bindings for Qt. The downloads, for all desktop platforms, are available under a special preview licence here in source and binary form.

KDE v4.0.2 released

From the KDE website:

Version 4.0.2 of KDE has been released. Most significant changes include:

  • Repainting issues in the HTML engine (KHTML) fixed
  • New Farsi and Icelandic tranlsations
  • Ability to resize Plasma desktop toolbar
  • Numerous other Plasma improvements and bug-fixes
  • Stability improvements to Kopete (chat client) and Okular (PDF reader)

PyKDE v4.0.0 and v3.16.1 released

Riverbank Computing has announced the release of new versions of the Python bindings for developing KDE applications. These are version 4.0.0, the newly stable KDE 4 bindings, and version 3.16.1, which "removes the need to patch the previous version". Source downloads of both are available here.

QtiPlot v0.9.3 released

From Qt Apps:

Version 0.9.3 of QtiPlot, a data analysis and scientific plotting application similar to Origin, has been released. Changes:

  • Added support for Undo/Redo when working with matrices.
  • Implemented ASCII import/export for matrices.
  • Improved matrix to table conversion.
  • Added the possibility to hide/show table columns.
  • Added support for plotting combined date and time data.
  • Improved import of Origin 7.5 project files.
  • Fixed a few minor bugs in the Fit Wizard and some other minor bugs.

Alpha of Cocoa-based Qt/Mac released

Trolltech Releases Alpha Version of Qt for Mac OS X Using Cocoa — Trolltech

Trolltech has released an alpha version of Qt 4.4 based on Cocoa, Apple's native Mac interface inherited from the NeXT operating system and based on Objective-C (presently, Qt is based on Carbon, inherited from the old Mac and written in C). This will enable the production of 64-bit applications with Qt on the Mac; Carbon itself has not been ported to the new 64-bit Mac Intel architecture. Both open-source and commercial downloads are available from the link above; although this is an alpha of Qt 4.4, final delivery of Cocoa-based Qt will be with Qt 4.5.

Eric4 v4.1.1 released
