More QScintilla v2 snapshots available

Riverbank Computing has announced that more snapshots of its QScintilla class, a Qt port of the Scintilla C++ editor class with syntax styling, error highlighting and other similar features, have been released. This version now works with both Qt3 and Qt4. Changelog here, downloads here.

Amarok v1.4.2 beta released

A first beta of version 1.4.2 of Amarok, the KDE music player and cataloguer, has been released. This version adds DAAP support, allowing connections to iTunes and Firefly Media Server among other things, Advanced Tag Features (ATF), dynamic collections (allowing the use of removable media) and more, including bug fixes (changelog here). Screenshots here, source download here (stable version is 1.4.1; download that here; note that as with most KDE projects, they only supply sources; binaries are contribs).

QtiPlot v0.8.6 released

Version 0.8.6 of QtiPlot, an open-source clone of the data analysis app Origin, has been released. This version adds a scripting interface, changes the build procedure so that liborigin is no longer shipped with it, SVG export of 2D plots, and numerous other new features (changelog on the KDE Apps page). QtCurve v0.40 released

Version 0.40 of the Qt/KDE theme QtCurve has been released. This version adds a configurable highlight factor (0-50%) and various other bug fixes and improvements (see changelog at KDE Look). Download at KDE Look; Kubuntu i386 package here.

BasKet v0.6.0 beta released

A second beta of version 0.6.0 of BasKet, an application for KDE to keep reminders etc in "baskets", has been released. This version adds Kontact integration, improved tags support and translations, and a vast number of other features and improvements (see KDE Apps page). Trolltech releases preview of Java binding

Trolltech today announced that it has released a technology preview of "Qt Jambi", its bindings for Java which enable Qt programs to be written in Java and deployed on Windows, X11 and the Mac. The preview is not intended for developing production applications but for testing and feedback. A FAQ is here and full API docs are here. The preview can be downloaded here.

Beesoft Commander v2.25 released

Version 2.25 of Beesoft Commander, a twin-panel Qt-based file manager and FTP client, has been released. This version adds two new features to the viewer module, namely viewing Qt-supported images and displaying HTML as on a web browser, not as code. digiKam v0.9.0 beta released

Qt 4.2 snapshot binary released

A development snapshot of Qt 4.2 has been released in binary form; the main changes being the merging of QMessageBox and QMessageBoxEx and updates to the D-Bus support. It can be downloaded from here. (The binaries are listed among the sources; there is a Mac disk image and a Windows/MinGW installer.) Stable version remains 4.1.4.

Gambas: new development version

A new development version of Gambas, the Visual Basic-like development environment for Unix with a KDE front-end, has been released. This version includes a re-designed "find" dialog in the IDE and numerous other fixes and improvements to the IDE, the interpreter, and the Qt, form, MDI, settings and GTK components. Screenshots here, downloads (source with links to binaries) here. Stable version (recommended for serious work) is 1.0.17; same download location.

QScintilla v2 snapshots available

Riverbank Computing have started releasing snapshots of its C++ editor class QScintilla, based on Neil Hodgson's Scintilla class. This version will support Qt 4 (without the Qt 3 compatibility classes); support for Qt 3 is planned also. Changelog here, downloads here. The stable version is v1.6 and requires Qt 3.

Dolphin File Manager v0.6.0 released

Version 0.6.0 of Dolphin File Manager, a file manager for KDE with a navigation bar, has been released. This version fixes various bugs and adds different sort orders for all views, zooming of the current view and a Tools menu, including console launching and file searching and comparing. kdesvn v0.9.1 released

Version 0.9.1 of kdesvn, the KDE client for the Subversion source-control system, has been released. This version fixes bugs the author says should have been fixed before 0.9 was released, including adding some libraries to the build path; there are some speed improvements also. Gambas: new stable version

Version 1.0.17 of Gambas, a Visual Basic-like development environment for Unix (with a Qt/KDE GUI), has been released. Changes include bug-fixes back-ported from the development version, affecting the IDE, the interpreter, and the evaluation, Qt and database components. Trolltech announces new official Qt book

Trolltech has announced the latest version of the official Qt book, C++ GUI Programming with Qt 4 by Jasmin Blanchette and Mark Summerfield, published by Prentice Hall. This version adds three new chapters, on item view classes, plugins and embedded programming, and an appendix introducing C++ and Qt to Java and C# programmers. The style is very similar to the existing Qt 3 book. It is also available through Amazon, probably cheaper than in your local chain bookstore (if you're in the UK, buy it from the link on the right and help fund A Qt Blog).

KBarcode v2.0.4 released

KPoGre v1.3.9 released

Version 1.3.9 of KPoGre, a KDE admin tool for PostgreSQL which uses the libpgxx, has been released. This version adds wizards for setting database object description and for enabling and disabling triggers and reworked the GUI to KMDI IDEAl mode (see KDE Apps page for full list). Kate v2.5.3 & KWrite v4.5.3 released

Version 2.5.3 of Kate, the KDE programmers' editor, has been released. This version adds session support and faster highlighting. Version 4.5.3 of its lightweight version, KWrite, has also been released, also adding faster highlighting. Screenshots here, downloads are from the main KDE archives.

Beesoft Commander v2.24 released

Version 2.24 of Beesoft Commander, a twin-panel file-manager and FTP client, has been released. This version adds the ability to concatenate two files, "slightly changes" file deletion on remote servers, and makes "a few changes" in FTP connections. kdesvn v0.9.0 released

Version 0.9.0 of kdesvn, a KDE client for the version control system Subversion, has been released. This version adds a French translation, "more differenced context menus", support for encodings other than UTF-8, the ability to dump local repositories and "create a new subversion repository and creates base layout (as standalone app only)" (both in response to feature requests).
