A second test release of PerlQt 4 has been released. This adds the QtGui module and has a rewrite of part of the tutorial. Source downloads here. Note that this lacks modules other than Core and GUI.

Smb4K v0.8.7 released

Version 0.8.7 of Smb4K, the Samba/Windows share browser for KDE, has been released. Changelog:

  • Fixed smb4k_cat utility program, so that files won't get corrupted anymore.
  • Fixed Smb4KPasswordHandler::readDefaultAuth() that returned a pointer that was freed when the function exited.
  • Fixed the remounting of shares.
  • Fixed mounting and unmounting problems under FreeBSD.

Recoll v1.10.0 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 1.10.0 of Recoll, a text search tool for Unix based on the Xapian back-end, has been released. This version adds support for Chinese, Japanese and Korean text and a GUI config tool for the main configuration file. Screenshots here, downloads (source, various distro binaries) here. Requires Xapian and Qt 3.3 or Qt 4 (the binaries require Qt 3.3 and have static Xapian compiled in).

KTorrent v2.2.4 released

Version 2.2.4 of KTorrent, a BitTorrent downloading program for KDE, has been released. This version fixes a major crash in v2.2.3. Screenshots here, downloads (source only at present) here.

KDE 4.0: first release candidate out

A first release candidate of KDE 4 has been released. This is defined as the first version suitable for general use, and it includes the final release of the development platform. Packages have already been released for OpenSUSE but source code and general information is here.

KAlarm v1.4.20 and v1.9.9beta2 released

Versions 1.4.20 and 1.9.9beta2 of KAlarm, an alarm and event scheduler for KDE, have been released. These versions fix a bug where deferring a non-recurring alarm didn't work, and there are other minor bug fixes. Screenshots here, downloads (source, Debian Lenny binaries, link to Slackware binaries) here. Stable version requires KDE 3; version 1.9 requires KDE 3.2.

Speedcrunch v0.9 released

From Qt Apps:

Version 0.9 of Speedcrunch, the scientific calculator, has been released. Changes:

  • a new, faster and more accurate math engine with a greatly extended number range
  • real-value factorials
  • new inverse hyperbolic functions
  • stay always-on-top feature

KSquirrel v0.7.5 released

Version 0.7.5 of KSquirrel, an image viewer for KDE which uses OpenGL for drawing, has been released. Changes in this release:

  • more bugfixes in tabs
  • more improvements in selection rectangle in image window
  • selection rectangle is now drawn by OpenGL
  • saving to clipboard now doesn't mix red and blue channels
  • other small bugfixes
  • added translations: Turkish, Polish, Italian, British

QtiPlot v0.9.1 released

Version 0.9.1 of QtiPlot, an Origin-like scientific plotting and data analysis program, has been released. Major changes:

  • The behaviour of matrices is now completely Origin like: dual image/data view mode, support for flipping and rotating images, 2D histograms and the possibility to save matrices as bitmap or vector image files. Fast Fourier Transformations for matrices was also implemented. This is a restricted module (the code is not GPL) and is available only to users having subscribed for a QtiPlot binaries maintenance contract.
  • The fit wizard was higly improved: all the fit models and the initial guesses for the fit parameters can be saved to XML files, added the possibility to restrict the search range for the fit parameters and added a preview functionality for the fit models, allowing to determine efficiently the initial fit values.
  • Added support for 3D parametric surfaces.
  • Added a preview option to the import ASCII dialog and the possibility to import new data as read-only columns.
  • Improved the handling of tool bars and added a new tool bar for table column operations.
  • The import of Origin 7.5 project files was improved thanks to Alex Kargovsky.
  • Fixed export to vector formats on Mac OS X.

KDE 4 release event contest winners announced

The winners of the contest to answer why one should get free admission to the KDE 4 release event (Mountain View, CA, 17-19 Jan 2008) have been announced. They are Aron Stansvik, a bookseller from Örebro, Sweden, and Kyle Cunningham, a computer science student at the University of Minnesota, and a KDE and Drupal contributor. Both will be speaking at the conference, and the content of their entries will be revealed then.

Qtopia v4.2.5 released to commercial customers

Trolltech Releases Qtopia 4.2.5 — Trolltech

Trolltech has released version 4.2.5 of Qtopia, its development toolkit and platform for embedded devices with the same API as Qt. Main changes (full list and release notes here):

  • Technology preview of Bluetooth support
  • Enhanced documentation, particularly the non-class pages
  • Numerous bug fixes; see the release notes.

This is not available under the GPL; open-source developers should use version 4.3. An evaluation version is available here.

Gambas v2.0 RC1 released

A first release candidate of version 2.0 of Gambas, a Visual Basic-like development environment for Unix, has been released. Main changes (full list here):

  • Now possible to use Gambas as a scripting language
  • Alpha channel support in the icon editor
  • PDF component enhanced
  • Interpreter can return error stack backtraces
  • Updates to Swedish, Catalan, Italian and Japanese translations

Squash v0.3 released

Version 0.3 of Squash, formerly Squeeze, a batch image resizer, has been released. Changes:

  • Usability improvements
  • Bug fix: Squash would crash when restarting resize

KAlarm v1.4.19 and 1.9.9 released

From KDE Apps:

Versions 1.4.19 (stable) and 1.9.9 (beta) of KAlarm, an alarm and event scheduler for KDE, have been released. Changes in 1.4.19:

  • Hang-up and temporary system freeze which occurred at startup fixed, along with a couple of other minor bugs

Changes in 1.9.9:

  • Alarm type now chosen from the menu, and possible to set the output of a command as the display text when the alarm activates
  • Start-up freeze as in 1.4.19 fixed
  • Failure to trigger some date-only alarms fixed
  • "Date-only alarms triggering every minute from midnight until the start-of-day time" fixed
  • Daylight saving bug fixed
  • Inability to enter today's times in the alarm edit dialog (in Americas) fixed
  • Some other bug fixes
  • Korean and Occitan translations added

Spanish KDE conference next weekend

The Spanish KDE conference, Akademy-es, is to be held in Zaragoza next weekend (17th and 18th Nov). Location details are here and the programme, including talks on CMake, KOffice and ODF and Semantik on Saturday, here. On Sunday, there will be a demonstration of KDE 4 with an "interactive and participatory session".

iTest v1.3.0 released

From Qt Apps:

Version 1.3.0 of iTest, a computerised examination suite, has been released. The system consists of a client and a server. Changes in both:

  • added Spanish translation
  • added SVG (scalable vector graphics) support, which means questions can now contain graphics
  • added multiple correct answers support
  • new database format - older versions of iTest cannot open the new itdb 1.3 files, iTest 1.3 can still open older databases
  • upgraded from Qt 4.3.1 to Qt 4.3.2

Changes in the server:

  • added the ability to print questions and tests (with or without graphics)
  • added search to the "overall statistics" dialogue
  • made the ui more flexible
  • many improvements in translations
  • numerous bug-fixes and more...

Changes in the client:

  • added the ability to hide correct answers at the end of tests
  • made the ui more flexible
  • fixed a bug where the status of the test progress bar was not refreshed after starting a new test

Edyuk v1.0-pre1 released

KPoGre v1.5.8 released

Version 1.5.8 of KPoGre, a KDE administration program for PostgreSQL databases, has been released. Changes:

  • Updated system catalog SQL queries, to be compatible with PosgtreSQL 8.3-b3
  • Added xml and uuid datatypes to wizards column lists
  • Improved DataTable to edit XML datatype columns like text LOB
  • Make XML syntax higlighter in editor configurable

KSquirrel v0.7.4 released

Version 0.7.4 of KSquirrel, a KDE image viewing application which uses OpenGL, has been released. Changes:

  • Filtering and color balance in image window doesn't loose rotation angle
  • Saving in image window doesn't loose rotation angle (flipping is still lost)
  • Prevent autoresizing when tab count is 1
  • External tools for non-local URLs now work (but not all programs accepts URLs, GQview for example)
  • External tools in image window now don't depend on navigator
  • Navigator now has focus at startup
  • Slider is changed when switching between tabs

K3b v1.0.4 released

Version 1.0.4 of K3b, the CD and DVD ripping and burning application for KDE, has been released. Changes since v1.0.3:

  • Never use growisofs parameter -dvd-compat with DVD-RW media in restricted overwrite mode
  • Unmount medium before DVD formatting
  • Silently (without introducing new strings for translation) allow the burning of files bigger than 4 GB with appropriate versions of genisoimage or mkisofs.
  • Do only reload the medium before verification if necessary, i.e. if the newly written track cannot be read otherwise (many old drives depend on this). Hopefully this will at least work around the awful "DMA disabled" bug for many users.
