PyQt v4.5.4 released with SIP update

Riverbank Computing has announced the release of PyQt v4.5.4, which is a bug-fix release. Downloads available here under a choice of GPL or a commercial licence.

Akademy 2009 technical papers published

Technical papers presented during the recent Akademy 2009 in Gran Canaria have been published and are available from the above link. There is also an interview with Celeste Lyn Paul of the KDE e.V. and Laura Dragan, a researcher at the Digital Enterprise Research Institute and the National University of Ireland, Galway and the author of one of the papers.

Icon test for K3b

A second beta of version 1.0.0 of digiKam, the digital photo download and management application for KDE, has been released. Changes:

  • General : Added support of Metadata Template to set easily image copyright.
  • General : Added support of LightRoom keywords path for interoperability purpose.
  • General : Added Multi-languages support to Caption and Tags right side-bar.

New board of directors for KDE e.V.

A new board of directors for KDE e.V., the legal representative body for KDE, has been elected in Gran Canaria. Two board members, Klaas Freitag and e.V. president Aaron Seigo, had stepped down, and vice president Adriaan de Groot's term had ended.

The new board members are Celeste Lyn Paul of the KDE Usability effort and Frank Karlitschek of KDE Apps, who will serve as treasurer. Adriaan de Groot was re-elected as VP and Cornelius Schumacher has been elected as president.

Maemo switching to Qt

It has been announced at the Gran Canaria Desktop Summit that the upcoming version of Maemo, codenamed Harmattan, will have its application framework based on Qt, while most of the middleware, known as Fremantle, will continue to be based on GNOME technologies. Maemo is an embedded platform, currently based on GTK+, used on Nokia's internet tablets. See the announcement for slides and a video of the GC announcement.

Eric4 v4.3.5 released

Version 4.3.5 of Eric4, the Python IDE based on PyQt and QScintilla, has been released. This is a bug-fix release. Screenshots here, downloads (unpackaged Python source only) here. Requires Qt and PyQt v4.3, Python v2.4 and QScintilla v2.2.

Qt dropping pre-NT Windows support

The Qt Labs blog has announced that support for the pre-NT versions of Windows (i.e. 95, 98 and Me) has been dropped. In particular, support for the old ANSI character sets has been removed in a recent commit to the source code. Those systems have not been supported in any fashion by Microsoft since 2006. (This does not affect the current version of Qt.)
