PyQt v4.8.1 released

Riverbank Computing has announced that version 4.8.1 of the Python bindings for Qt (PyQt) has been released. This is "primarily a bug-fix release" (changelog here). Downloads here with Windows installers.

    Nokia have released Qt v4.7 for Maemo 5 with the latest system update. Maemo 5 ships with the Nokia N900 smartphone / internet tablet, and this makes the N900 the first device to ship with Qt 4.7, which includes Qt Quick and Qt Mobility v1.2.

    Qt to be sole framework for Symbian

    Nokia further refines development strategy to unify environments for Symbian and MeeGo

    Nokia have announced that Qt is going to be the sole application framework for both its Symbian and MeeGo mobile device platforms. Future development of Symbian is to take place within Qt, which will move to a model of "continuous evolution" rather than the previous "release-based model".

    Qt 4.7 for Symbian^3 -- developer version available

    Nokia have made a development version of Qt v4.7 available for Symbian^3 (as used on devices like N8 and C7). This is a strictly development release and cannot be used to deploy apps (the target is that deployment can begin in Q1 of 2011). It can be downloaded here.

    Aaron Seigo has set out his vision for Plasma, the KDE widget interface, which includes a new "libplasma2" interface (not compatible with the current one) and moving away from using the QPainter classes to the QML used in Qt Quick. (Also see this OSNews article.)

    Version 1.5.0 of digiKam, the digital photo collection and editing app for KDE, has been released (as has the required kipi plugins). Changes:

    • Fix compilation under windows with TDM-GCC and MSVC compilers
    • Including LensFun library source code as 3rd-party component, especially for windows target where this library is not available

    A beta of Qt Mobility v1.1.0 has been released. (Qt Mobility is a set of APIs offering common mobile functionality to all Qt platforms, including desktops.) Major changes:

    • New APIs including: Organizer, Versit/Organizer, Document Gallery and Feedback.
    • Location API extended with Maps and Navigation and Landmarks features
    • Multimedia now has camera functionality

    Kubuntu 10.10 Release Candidate | Kubuntu

    A release candidate of version 10.10 (codenamed Maverick Meerkat or just Maverick) of Kubuntu has been released. More details are available on the Kubuntu Wiki. Major changes in this release:

    • Linux kernel v2.6.35
    • New Ubuntu font
    • KDE v4.5.1, currently the latest version, based on Qt v4.7.0
