Qt Programming Contest 2008 announced

Qt Centre have announced their programming contest for 2008, sponsored by KDAB, Integrated Computer Solutions, Trolltech, BitRock, Thorsen Consulting, APress and basysKom. The contest starts today, registration closes 31st May and the contest finishes on 30th September. Categories are collaboration tools (this includes the likes of version control and chat clients), science and education software, project management, automation, products demonstrating Qt, a KDE 4 Plasmoid, and a category for any new application developed for the contest. Plasma Themes Contest

The KDE Plasma team is inviting everyone to participate in a contest to create Plasma themes from which a select few will be chosen to be included as a part of the upcoming KDE 4.1 release. This can be done using SVG with a program like Inkscape, GIMP or Karbon; it does not require C++ programming knowledge. Deadline is 18th April this year. KDE 4 release event contest winners announced

The winners of the contest to answer why one should get free admission to the KDE 4 release event (Mountain View, CA, 17-19 Jan 2008) have been announced. They are Aron Stansvik, a bookseller from Örebro, Sweden, and Kyle Cunningham, a computer science student at the University of Minnesota, and a KDE and Drupal contributor. Both will be speaking at the conference, and the content of their entries will be revealed then.

Qt Centre contest results published

Qt Centre Programming Contest 2007 - Finalists

Qt Centre have published the results of their 2007 Programming Contest. The winners in each category were QXML-RPC for helper library (30Gb iPod and a book), Warp Tree for custom widget (three books), QDevelop for development tool (a MacBook and two books), and Marble desktop globe for desktop application (Sony PSP and a book). The Greenphones went to the developers of GreenSudoku and the OpenGL IDE Lumina.

Trolltech announces Greenphone development challenge

Trolltech today announced a new development contest, involving developing an app for its Qtopia Phone Edition platform. Entries are accepted in five categories (best original app, best improvement to a QPE app, best end to end service, best user interface experience and "Best in the Impossible to Classify Category"). 25 Greenphones are to be given away in phase one; the two winners of phase two are to win US$5,000, professional QPE licences, and air fare to the Munich or LA Trolltech Developer Days. The project website, with rules and application forms, is here. The phase one registration and submission deadline is 29th July this year. Qt desktop developers are reminded that the Qt Centre Programming Contest is still open until the end of May.

Qt Centre launch programming contest

Qt Centre, the Qt forum and Wiki, has announced a programming contest to mark its first anniversary. Details of the competition, including the guidelines for how to produce a winning entry, are on the main competition page; categories are custom widget, developer tool, helper library, mobile application and desktop application. The software must be written using Qt 4 and the closing date is 31st May this year. Prizes include two Trolltech Greenphones (top prize), a MacBook, a 30Gb iPod, a Sony portable PlayStation, and books on Qt. Sponsors include Qt development companies BasysKom, Froglogic, ICS, KDAB (Matthias Kalle Dalheimer's company) and Trolltech itself.
