Amarok v2.2.1 released

A bug fix release, version 2.2.1, of the KDE audio player and collection manager Amarok has been released. Changes:

  • Auto-updating of podcasts whenever there is a connection
  • Grouping of podcasts
  • Improvements to playlist system
  • Faster collection scanning
  • New updater for Amarok's scripts
  • Bug fixes

Icon test for K3b

There is a survey being done to test icons for the KDE 4 port of K3b, the CD/DVD burning app which currently uses the KDE 3 libraries. The survey consists of asking you which icons best suit the stated purpose. You can take the survey here.

digiKam v1.0.0: second beta released

A second beta of version 1.0.0 of digiKam, the digital photo download and management application for KDE, has been released. Changes:

  • General : Added support of Metadata Template to set easily image copyright.
  • General : Added support of LightRoom keywords path for interoperability purpose.
  • General : Added Multi-languages support to Caption and Tags right side-bar.

Yakuake v2.9.5 released

Version 2.9.5 of Yakuake, a drop-down terminal (based on Konsole) similar to the console in the Quake games, has been released. Changes include:

  • Added a new framework, referred to as the visual event overlay, to display notifications (and potentially other information) on top of the terminals. It's used for a number of new features found in this release, as described in their separate entries.
  • Added an option to visually indicate the newly-focussed terminal when moving focus in a session with multiple terminals (i.e. via splits), or the currently focussed terminal when switching to a session with multiple terminals.
  • Added a feature to disable keyboard input for all or individual terminals in a session
  • Added a feature to lock a session to prevent it from being closed accidentally
  • Added various new D-Bus interfaces
  • Bug fixes, including 2 crashes
  • Fixed linking with the new gold linker in binutils

The first stable version of digiKam, the digital photo downloader and collection manager, for KDE 4 has been released. Changes since last release candidate:

  • Internal CImg library updated to 1.3.0
  • New "DarkRoom" colour scheme
  • 33 bug-fixes, including 6 crashes

Version 0.9.5 of digiKam, a digital photo download and collection manager for KDE, has been released. Major changes:

  • General : libkdcraw dependency updated to 0.1.6.
  • General : TIFF/PNG/JPEG2000 metadata can be edited or added (require Exiv2 >= 0.18).
  • General : Internal CImg library updated to 1.3.0.
  • Image Editor : All image plugin tool settings provide default buttons to reset values.
  • Image Editor : New Raw import tool to handle Raw pictures with customized decoding settings.
  • Image Editor : All image plugin dialogs are removed. All tools are embedded in editor window.
  • Image Editor : New composition guide based on Diagonal Rules.
  • 60 bug fixes, including 8 crashes

DigiKam v0.10: second release candidate

digiKam 0.10.0-rc2 release for KDE4 | digiKam

A second release candidate of digiKam v0.10.0 has been released. DigiKam is a KDE program for downloading and managing, and doing basic manipulations on, digital photos. New features:

  • Sidebar type is configurable: title is visible for only active tab, or for all tabs
  • Ported print management to Qt4/KDE4
  • 64 bug fixes (see here for full list

TorK v0.31 released

Version 0.31 of TorK, an anonymity manager for KDE (basically a client for the Tor network run by the EFF), has been released. Changes:

  • Major update to German Translation from Hans-J. Ullrich
  • Boilerplate Greek Translation
  • Boilerplate Spanish Translation
  • Allow proxy ports up to 99999. Bug reported by anonym.
  • Allow MapAddress configurations to apply properly.
  • Modify 18x12 icons to 16x16 and so prevent packaging violations in Debian and Suse. Thanks to Marek Stopka and Patrick Matthai for pointing this out.
  • Fix so that downloading of experimental vs stable tor works properly again.
  • Don't crash if /dev/*/statistics/read does not exist.
  • Always update new server info
  • Fallback to default ORPort and Dirport if UPNP configured but unavailable
  • Prevent Tor from reloading torrc on sighup.

DigiKam for KDE4: first release candidate

A first release candidate of version 0.10.0 of digiKam, the KDE digital photo downloader and manager, has been released. Major changes include:

  • Use of multi-threading to generate thumbnails
  • Port to CMake and removal of direct X11 library dependencies, so it's portable to Windows and Mac
  • Preview of audio & video files using Phonon
  • Usability improvements to allow running on small screens (such as on netbooks)
  • Support for XMP metadata
  • Now depends on libkexiv2 v0.5.0 and libkdcraw v0.4.0
  • New design for camera interface
  • New capture tool
  • Bar graph in camera GUI to show free space on camera
  • Thumb-bar with Preview mode to make it easy to navigate between images
  • Improved searching, including ability to search metadata, image properties and geography, and to find similar and duplicate images
  • New plugin to correct lens aberrations
  • New Raw import tool to handle Raw pictures with customized decoding settings
  • All image plugin dialogs are removed. All tools are embedded in editor window
  • 363 bug fixes

KOffice 2.0 beta 5 released

A fifth beta of version 2.0 of KOffice, the official office suite for KDE 4, has been released; official announcement here. Changes include:

  • Improvements to loading and saving of Open Document Format (ODF) document
  • All reported KWord crash bugs fixed
  • Numerous bug fixes to all applications and to plugins (see changelog).
