Maintainer sought for KDocker

A maintainer is sought for the KDocker application, which is at present a plain Qt 3 application despite its name. The application is currently behind in development due to the developer's lack of time for maintaining it; among the first tasks is porting it to Qt 4. Anyone interested should contact Girish Ramakrishnan at girish at forwardbias dot in.

Scribus v1.3.3.12 released

Syntext Serna v3.6.0 released

Version 3.6.0 of Syntext Serna, a commercial WYSIWYG XML editing application, has been released. Changes:

  • Enhanced DITA usability tools simplifying topic creation and work with references: xref, related link, topicref, and conref.
  • Navigation to the target element of the conref.

Gambas 2: second release candidate

A second release candidate of version 2 of Gambas, the Visual Basic-like IDE for Unix which uses KDE, has been released. Changes include:

  • The development environment toolbar icon size now follows the font size.
  • You can send key events to other applications.
  • The Observer class can catch events after they have been processed.
  • GridView cells can display rich text.

Recoll v1.10.0 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 1.10.0 of Recoll, a text search tool for Unix based on the Xapian back-end, has been released. Gambas v1.9.90 released

From KDE Apps:

Version 1.9.90 of Gambas, a Visual Basic-like programming environment for Unix, has been released. This is expected to be the last before the first release candidate (i.e. it's basically a beta rather than a development version). Changes include:

  • An old bug was fixed in the interpreter that made the debugger display the value of global variables incorrectly.
  • Class names used as functions now are cast operators, unless they have a _call special method defined.
  • An old bug was fixed in the Settings class, that made the interpreter stops without printing any error message.
  • The gb.ldap component was removed: apparently it does not work, and its develor does not maintain it anymore.

Scribus v1.3.4 released

Version 1.3.4 of the open-source desktop publishing application Scribus has been released. Changes include:

  • A rewritten preview mode, allowing designers and artists to view documents as those with colour deficiencies would view a document, allowing artists to avoid colour combinations which affect legibility.
  • Major improvements to TIFF and PSD support, allowing Desktop Color Separations import
  • New styles and text capabilities include style inheritance for paragraphs, character styles and line styles. This is now managed by a new style manager palette.
  • New text layout engine, offering more appealing justification
  • New pre-press capabilities including, registration marks, crop marks, calibration bars and document meta info. These are all easily managed within the print and PDF export dialogs.

CrossVC XXL v2.0.0 released

Version 2 of CrossVC XXL, the proprietary version of the CrossVC client for CVS and Subversion (version control software) formerly called LinCVS, has been released. Changes are listed here. Note that this version appears not to support Subversion v1.4. Screenshots here, downloads (no source as it's proprietary; binaries for Win32, Mac OS X Tiger, Solaris on Sparc and x86, Linux and FreeBSD) here. Downloads are free for non-commercial use. Latest open-source version (CrossVC) is v1.5.1, released last December (same download location). Both versions use Qt 3.

KDE Apps forks Qt Apps

The people behind KDE Apps have established two new websites, Qt Apps and Qt Prop (corrected), for open-source and proprietary applications using Qt but not KDE. Developers of Qt-based apps featured on KDE Apps are advised to contact the webmasters, with the contact form linked off the news page above, to ask them to move the page over to the new site.

  • DITA enhancements, including support of and metadata elements, ability to switch localization on-the-fly
  • Docbook enhancements, including Docbook V4.5 support, element support, numbering figures & tables as in publishing stylesheet
  • Functional enhancements, including extensions for redlining handling and for document() function, support of and extension-element-prefixes

LyX v1.4.4 released

Varicad 2005 v 1.05 released

CrossVC XXL 2 preview released

A third preview of version 2.0 of CrossVC XXL, the commercial version of the CVS client formerly known as LinCVS, has been released. Bibble v4.9d released

The Linux version requires at least a Pentium 3 or Athlon XP and Linux kernel 2.4 or later.

SIM IM v0.9.4.1 released
