{"id":1459,"date":"2004-06-22T21:06:49","date_gmt":"2004-06-22T20:06:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.blogistan.co.uk\/ijwp\/mt.php\/2004\/06\/22\/alert_on_map_thefts"},"modified":"2004-06-22T21:06:49","modified_gmt":"2004-06-22T20:06:49","slug":"alert_on_map_thefts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.blogistan.co.uk\/blog\/mt.php\/2004\/06\/22\/alert_on_map_thefts","title":{"rendered":"Alert on map thefts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>s a graduate of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aber.ac.uk\/\">University of Wales<\/a> in Aberystwyth, who made much use of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.llgc.org.uk\/\">National Library of Wales<\/a>, I&#8217;d like to<br \/>\nhelp publicise the appeal for the capture of a serial map thief called Peter Joseph Bellwood.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nBellwood goes to various libraries, including the NLW, handing over money he claimed to have found on the floor in order to gain the librarians&#8217; confidence (probably his own money), and then cuts out maps from rare books, so he can take them away and sell them.  The BBC&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/crimewatch\/\">Crimewatch<\/a> programme has just done an appeal on him; there is a <a\nhref=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/1\/hi\/wales\/2917115.stm\">BBC News article<\/a> on the appeal here.<\/p>\n<p>The NLW is a copyright library, one of five in the UK (the others being in London, Oxford, Cambridge and Edinburgh) with the right to collect, free of charge, any book published in Britain or Ireland.
