Am I the only person in London who gets thoroughly annoyed at the “Back the Bid” propaganda which is being displayed all over town?<\/p>\n
I was on the District Line today and saw these wretched stickers on the windows, inviting me to text to a particular number. The Hammersmith and City line is the same. There is no number to text to if I don’t want to back it, needless to say. I wonder where the government got the money, to tell us to support their idiotic bid?

\nAnd we had no real choice about this. All three of the mayoral candidates from the main parties (ie. not the extremists like UKIP or the BNP) were in favour of the bid, and no doubt if we object, we are told that we voted for them on the platform of the Olympic bid. So we are supposed to vote Nazi, if we don’t like dragging the Olympics into town?<\/p>\n
The Olympics will be a disaster. It brings precisely the wrong sort of “regeneration”: temporary construction projects. Will they employ locals? No! They’ll employ Poles and Ukrainians on the minimum wage, which may well be more than some white-collar workers’ wages in Kiev or Krakow. What east London needs is proper, permanent industry!<\/p>\n
And it will push up house prices and rents, making east London yet another area where nobody but the rich can afford to live. It is one of the few remaining working-class areas, and it is ethnically mixed, and is one of the main Muslim areas in London. Wake up Muslims! This will kill your part of London, to make way for this ridiculous two-week festival. We should all oppose this stupid bid, as it really will be bad for us all.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
