{"id":1650,"date":"2008-09-10T06:47:46","date_gmt":"2008-09-10T05:47:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.blogistan.co.uk\/ijwp\/mt.php\/2008\/09\/10\/congo_goats_let_out_of_jail"},"modified":"2025-10-09T18:09:28","modified_gmt":"2025-10-09T17:09:28","slug":"congo_goats_let_out_of_jail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.blogistan.co.uk\/blog\/mt.php\/2008\/09\/10\/congo_goats_let_out_of_jail","title":{"rendered":"Congo goats let out of jail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When I first saw <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/1\/hi\/world\/africa\/7607460.stm\">this story<\/a>, I thought they meant goats kept by prisoners as a possible food source, but no, they really were there awaiting trial:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\nThe beasts were due to appear in court, charged with being sold illegally by the roadside.<br \/>\nThe minister said many police had serious gaps in their knowledge and they would be sent for retraining.<br \/>\nMr Nyamugabo was conducting a routine visit to the prison when, he said, he was astonished to discover not only humans, but a herd of goats crammed into a prison cell in the capital.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The goats&#39; owners were also charged, so the world hasn&#39;t gone completely mad.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\nThere was no word on what their punishment would have been, had they been found guilty.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I think the death penalty is in order here.  Let them be lunch!
