{"id":531,"date":"2006-02-06T17:05:18","date_gmt":"2006-02-06T16:05:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.blogistan.co.uk\/ijwp\/mt.php\/2006\/02\/06\/jp_wouldnt_lampoon_another_prophet"},"modified":"2025-10-10T22:08:23","modified_gmt":"2025-10-10T21:08:23","slug":"jp_wouldnt_lampoon_another_prophet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.blogistan.co.uk\/blog\/mt.php\/2006\/02\/06\/jp_wouldnt_lampoon_another_prophet","title":{"rendered":"JP wouldn&#8217;t lampoon another prophet &#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pickledpolitics.com\/archives\/280\">Pickled Politics<\/a>, it appears that Jyllands-Posten were selective about whose taboos they&#39;d risk offending &#8211; they would portray the Prophet Muhammad (<em>sall&#39; Allahu &#39;alaihi wa sallam<\/em>) as a vicious terrorist with a couple of bug-eyed veiled wives, but wouldn&#39;t like to offend their own Christian readership.  Not that we want to see another of our prophets (<em>&#39;alaihim as-salaam<\/em>) defamed, but <a href=\"http:\/\/media.guardian.co.uk\/site\/story\/0,,1703500,00.html\">the hypocrisy is obvious<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\nJyllands-Posten, the Danish newspaper that first published the cartoons of the prophet Muhammad that have caused a storm of protest throughout the Islamic world, refused to run drawings lampooning Jesus Christ, it has emerged today.<br \/>\nThe Danish daily turned down the cartoons of Christ three years ago, on the grounds that they could be offensive to readers and were not funny.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Now, if anyone has seen the cartoons they did print, they would realise that these cartoons were even more offensive and no more funny.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\nIn April 2003, Danish illustrator Christoffer Zieler submitted a series of unsolicited cartoons dealing with the resurrection of Christ to Jyllands-Posten.<br \/>\nZieler received an email back from the paper&#39;s Sunday editor, Jens Kaiser, which said: &quot;I don&#39;t think Jyllands-Posten&#39;s readers will enjoy the drawings. As a matter of fact, I think that they will provoke an outcry. Therefore, I will not use them.&quot;\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Admittedly, these were submitted unsolicited; the cartoons they published in September were actually commissioned.  It seems that some people are willing to throw caution, and all their principles, to the wind to have a dig at the Muslims.
