The BBC is reporting on a Muslim woman who wears hijab and whose aunt is an actress in Iran and wants to make it on the stage or screen here. I don't see how this could work, given that even if she played a Muslim woman who wore hijab, the character would have a home life in which she took off her hijab - so what would this lady do then? I think her "plan B" idea of a career in genetics would be more useful.
Not a good career for a Muslima

She could get a job as a radio actress.
I would advice my sister in Islam, to just stay away from acting; there is nothing beneficial from an act that is filled with disobedience to Allah. There are many other careers that Muslim women can chase after that will have profound impact on society and the people within those societies. These include being a doctor, a teacher, a professor, a principle, a journalist, and a policy analyst (we need Muslim women in this field). Let us not forget, whatever career we Muslim women choose should be one that follows the guideline of the Quran ad Sunnah.
I think her plan B would also contribute a lot more to Humanity as well.
Salaams
I know this is controversial but i think it is hight time we made films and dramas of our own to reflect our values and our lives. It would be a powerful tool to spread Islam as Hazrat Hassan bin Thabit's poems were in the time of the Prophet (SAWS).
On that note, there was much discussion at one time of Hollywood producing a film about Mawlana Rumi (RA). As his poetry is immensley popular in the US and Europe he would be an ideal figure to produce a film on, however it would be even better if it was us Muslims making the film with a correct understanding of his beliefs and spirituality.
I would like to reiterate ardo's comments above as there is nothing beneficial from an act that is filled with disobedience to Allah.
The Islamic heritage is awash with examples of other careers that Muslim women can pursue, in keeping with the Islamic teachings.
Sadly, the desire to emulate the West and its values seems to be override the commandments of Allah (swt).
