Don’t appease Putin

Simon Heffer of the London Daily Mail has written a piece in this week’s Spectator, in which he calls for western politicians not to play into the hands of the Putin régime, which besides its brutality in Chechenya, is trying to destablise the Baltic region. (The bit about the Baltic is frightening for western Europeans – a lot of people think Chechenya is “rightfully” part of Russia, but a lot of Russians, particularly higher up, probably think Poland and Ukraine are still rightfully theirs.)
