Whatever happened to BBC pronunciation?
Listening to how people in the British broadcast media pronounce names of people who are very much in the news, you wonder why the organisation does not find out how they are pronounced, and teach its employees.
For the record, the “shch” in the name “Yushchenko” is pronounced as in the English word “pushchair”. It’s not “You-shenko”.
And how long as Osama bin Hidin’ been in the news? Since about 1996? Why has nobody taught them that the stress is on the middle syllable, and it’s not “Ozza-ma”?
